I checked off my first 2 countries in one book for #ReadtheWorld2025 :
Japan and Canada! This book really transported me to both places!
My goal is to get to 10 this year to beat last year.
Thanks for hosting @GatheringBooks !

I wanted to like this book more than I did. The narrator for the #audiobook had an incredibly soothing and easy to listen to voice. The firsthand accounts of the loss, devastation, resiliency, and strength were powerful. The book just felt too drawn out. If the author had condensed things a bit, which I fully believe he could have done without sacrificing the integrity of his work, then I think this would have easily been a 4-4.5 star read.
🎉 #JumpStart2025 gave me a good push this year! I read almost 8 more hours and 92 more pages than last January.
⌚️My favorite this month was A Tale for the Time Being, but I liked all my reads this month.
🙌 Thanks for the challenge @Lizpixie !

I just finished this and it was so good! Told in 3 timelines by 3 narrators we meet Nao from Japan in the past and Ruth living in Canada in the present. Connected by flotsam their stories come together. I enjoyed both of their voices so much, and the metaphysical aspect.

“…the reality of being here eludes me, I can‘t focus, I am dazed. And I want to stay this way. If I have too much clarity, I will be undone, I fear.”

This was so enthralling, I couldn't stop listening. I loved the interconnected stories of Ruth & Nao and the subtle magical realism throughout. The characters were so well crafted and the story slow & gentle yet compelling. 5⭐

Last year I mentioned our local library built a wind phone on their property. This week our local independent newspaper made a video about this one of a kind building in Vermont. My daughter, daughter-in-law, their best friend and the librarian spoke of how valuable it is and how much they use it. I thought folks might be interested in viewing the film. It's a surprisingly vulnerable video.
