My last book for #tob23 and, despite being wary after all of the mixed reviews, I really liked it. The examination of the lives of workers at a second tier Hollywood movie studio during WWII. They are immigrants, refugees, and American born minorities, each with a vivid backstory and each with their own struggle in the world of movies and the world outside. This felt like a epic cinematic saga. My first by Marra and I am looking forward to more.

Cuilin Stacking this as I loved (edited) 2y
Suet624 @Jas16 @Cuilin I love Marra. Have read all of his books. I just want to make sure you both know this one is completely different from his other books. :) I'm also really glad to hear you liked this one, Jennifer. For some reason the section where they make replicas of buildings for the planes to bomb stays with me. 2y

BarbaraBB Great review. I am glad you enjoyed it. 2y
Cuilin @Suet624 thanks for the information. I‘d love to know how it differs? I like his writing style in his previous novel. 2y
Readerann I liked this a lot, too, although I agree it‘s different from his other work. I‘d have to say it doesn‘t flow as well as “Vital Phenomena…”. 2y
BkClubCare @Cuilin @Suet624 - both Tsar and the Constellation books are heavily-linked short stories and are totally freaking amazing!! If you liked MPP, I truly hope his previous are treats. 🌟 2y
Suet624 @Cuilin @jas16 @bkclubcare wow! I thought I answered this question! I‘m sorry. His two previous books deal with the war in Chechnya and how it affects the characters that Marra writes about. They are emotionally intense with a bit of humor thrown in. You‘ll never forget what it feels like to read them. 2y
Cuilin @Suet624 no worries 😉 thanks. 2y

Bk3 of #JumpStart2023 is finally done! This is over 31hrs long, but so worth it. About the beginning of the AIDS crisis, it infuriated me, made me think & most of all made me so sad. The infighting & bullshit from gov, doctors & the gay community is just unfathomable. The fact it hit them first complicated the issue unnecessarily & caused so many needless deaths.😢 #BookspinBingo #Booked2023 #AboutAPandemic #NonFictionBingo2023 #IWillSurvive👇

Clwojick I love your bullet journal pages! ❤️ 2y
Lizpixie @Clwojick thank you! It‘s taking me longer than I thought to get it done, I‘m soooo not an artist, but I‘m trying to get at least 4 transferred into my bujo from my list every day. My fault for going overboard once again!🤷🏻‍♀️ 2y

And I've just realised Band Sinister meets #threewayscreenplay just fine. Rookwood, John Raven, and Lord Corvin, the Murder, make up the three-way (not going into detail about the ménage situation...) And ok it hasn't been adapted for the screen yet, but I would LOVE if it were. #fourfoursin23
