This book could make an excellent lesson on the importance of resilience and the ability to thrive where you are. This book would be an amazing classroom addition to a library.

The illustrations in this book were really good and I enjoyed the writing style of the author. It was also very interesting and would make a good addition to a classroom library.

The Dust Bowl in the 1930s drove families to California, away from the destruction. The photo on this book cover was taken by Dorothea Lange, who aimed to document the lives of those unfortunate families.

Very interesting subject, but it meanders a little in the middle.
MYSTERY - HISTORICAL FICTION - MURDER MIXED WITH LAUGHTER
Chicago, Chicago my kind of town.....but at the moment it definitely wasn‘t Amos Jansen‘s kind of town since he is being accused of murder.
A history lesson with many names you will want to look up to find out what part they played in America‘s history of unions and civil liberties.
Murder mixed with laughter make this book an historical page turner.

In the “Dirty Thirties”, families were torn apart by poverty and dire circumstances. The found family, hardships, and resiliency of the characters was wonderful.
Setting is rural Arkansas, 1933 in the thick of the Great Depression. Interesting premise but was challenging to keep the characters and their storylines straight and failed to capture the imagination. Not for me and bailed at 60% ☹️
