Hello PemberLittens! It's time for #JaneandtheExcellentReadalong discussion. I love this fits in with my #SeptemberbytheSea and Fictional Hangover Book Club Challenge - #YoHoHoAhoyMateys. While technically they were smugglers, but we love a #TenuousLink. Anywhoozle if you haven't finished reading and don't want be Spoiled come back later.

There be Spoilers in the Comments ‼️☠️

Crinoline_Laphroaig 1. Jane going out to investigate in the middle of the the night. Playing the hapless hysterical female with Mr. Crawford and then stealthy maken her way to the beach.

And of course anytime Lord Harold shows up.

2. "The only consolation in foul weather is to turn one‘s lock upon the street, and settle in by the fire with tea and a good book -"
2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig 3. Jane's Father: “Are you intending to pay a call, my dear? And in the middle of the night?” How he respects her judgment and just lets her get on with things.

4. Jane falling asleep in the cave. Also I'd forgotten how active she was in this book - Ducking through neighbors yards, following men through a cavern, knocking out the murderer.

5. Lyme's Fossils. It was interesting to Google and see pictures.

6. Still contemplating this one.

Crinoline_Laphroaig 7. Depends - are there snakes in England? If so I'm not going in the creepy cave. Someone else will have to solve the mystery. I'll just take a nice gentle stroll on the beach and look for Fossils.

BarkingMadRead I‘ll come back to this later, I started late so I‘m not done yet! 2y
Ruthiella 1. That kiss in the jail! 2. No quote 3. Sidmouth was my fav. 4. The resolution of the mystery surprised me! 5. It was interesting to learn about British support for anti-Napoleon espionage. 6. Jane is a constant month-maybe May? 7. I would definitely prefer to collect fossils over exploring a dark cave! 😂 Thanks for hosting! 🙏 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Ruthiella I love how we know Jane's story but author manages to fit in this little flirtations. 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig Iteresting Blog post on Author's Website. It's about someone who tried to steal ths story & make movie. http://francinemathews.blogspot.com/2018/10/bookbub-special-jane-and-man-of-clot... the sum of it was: She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named informed me self-righteously that I did not own Jane Austen! I did not own history! I did not own the private journals Austen had penned two hundred years ago... ⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig "At which I tumbled to the appalling truth: She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named thought Jane's diaries recording her detective adventures, which I invented purely as a framing device for a series of mystery novels, actually existed.

She'd never seen them, of course. She had no idea where said journals might be archived. She'd just read a paperback edition of Jane and the Man of the Cloth and assumed it was all true." ?

i.besteph Hi can you please remove me from the tag list? I‘ll have to read this some other time 😅 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @i.besteph will do! 2y
MoonWitch94 I loved the month comparison. I think it‘s pretty valid. I would classify Jane as a Spring month….perhaps May like @Ruthiella suggested! 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @MoonWitch94 May yes! My friend Claire on Instagram said April because it contains multitudes and she felt Jane has them to. 2y
MoonWitch94 @Crinoline_Laphroaig OH!! That‘s a good point, too! 2y
mollyrotondo 1. Loved Jane exploring the cave. It was so tense! 2. I unfortunately returned my book to the library already so I don‘t have a quote to pull 3. My favorite character when she pops up is Eliza. She just as strong as Jane and is such a good influence! 4. I was surprised that the captain died in the middle of the book. I thought he was the Reverend lol. 5. I learned so much about smuggling and how those towns were set up that way forever ago. 2y
mollyrotondo 6. I agree that Jane seems like an April. 7. I would want to dig for fossils. Running around in caves seems too dangerous for me. I‘ll leave that to someone more brave like Jane lol 2y
mollyrotondo That story is crazy lol but Barron does write with a convincing tone that makes you second guess if you knew nothing about Jane Austen lol 2y

Ruthiella I‘m so behind! Will reply later. Glad to hear from @TheBookHippie that it‘s a stronger effort than the first. 2y
nanuska_153 @TheBookHippie this is great news! I haven't started yet, I'm behind with Jane Eyre and A secret sisterhood 😓 hopefully I'll catch up with all of them before the end of the month 2y
TheBookHippie @nanuska_153 my favorite so far is the Christmas one I read a few years ago - not realizing it was a series!!! I‘m not sure what number that is 😂 however this one is more readable to me, the last one I struggled. Good luck catching up! 2y
TheBookHippie @Ruthiella it seems more readable to me or I‘m so intent on ignoring the airplane rides I‘m taking 😂😫. 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @TheBookHippie @nanuska_153 @Ruthiella @janeycanuck The Christmas one is no 12. I remember because it's the 12 Days of Christmas. I found interesting in the authors Blog Post she says she often tells people to start with Book 2 because it's a stronger book. She responded to a Tweet of mine the Book 2 is one of her favorites. 2y
Ruthiella @Crinoline_Laphroaig I have inadvertently started series out of order, but if I know it‘s a series from the get-go the compulsion to start with book one is STRONG! 😆 2y
kspenmoll This 2nd Jane I could not put down! What a feisty woman!!!! And it was fun to read about September there! @TheBookHippie hope you are off the plane now! @Ruthiella @nanuska_153 @janeycanuck (edited) 2y

Crinoline_Laphroaig Fictional Hangover Book Challenge Theme for September 🏴‍☠️ 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig Some how I missed this MKA when it came out. 2y
marleed I read a Fortnight in September last September and loved it so much that I bought copies for books. I actually think it adds to the reading experience if you read about when/how the book was written and edited beforehand. 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @marleed this makes me want to read it even more. 2y
