A fascinating history which I know nothing. I had to watch the miniseries twice with captions in order not to confuse the characters. I decided to listen to the novel, and I am having the same trouble, but this time, I have a character map. The narrator has the best voice.

What intrigues me the most, that I think the adaptation misses, is the different definitions of bravery that the three different cultures have.

Kick arse women and girls, revenge, swordplay and samurai, blood, and also they have mobile phones? So alternate history or alternate present or fantasy, take your pick.

Either way, love these two.

I read somewhere that Shogun is Game of Thrones if Ned Stark was smarter and boy, yes it is.

Any fans out here?!

This has kickass women with swords, a very good horse, and it made me laugh out loud. Truly, everything I wanted it to be.

If Musashi isn‘t my favorite book of all time then it‘s darn close! After recently completing Shogun I revisited Musashi for the mental exercise of contrasting and comparing the two behemoths. The similarities are endless. The differences essentially stem from the writers knowing their audience.

I would be interested in a new translation though. I believe C. S. Terry‘s is the only available, and I find myself wondering how a newer one would read.
