I‘m so glad the Bloody Scotland Book Club went from monthly to quarterly. I love it, but I think a monthly schedule was a little unwieldy for all involved. As it is, there‘s usually at least one of the selections that‘s hard for me to find here. This time it‘s The Waiter.

That leaves The Darkness, which I just checked out from the library, and The Crow Trap which I have on my shelf.

You can watch later on YouTube if you don‘t want to do FB.

Reading The Crow Girl was a demanding journey, but one I‘m ultimately glad I went on. This book isn‘t for the faint of heart, and it‘s definitely not a book I‘d recommend as someone‘s first journey into crime fiction. This book is dark, and delves deep into the depths of human depravity. It‘s been a long time since I‘ve chugged out a chunkster in a month but I‘m glad I did. ⬇️

This was my #Bookspin pick for March
#TBRTarot March pick

ChelseaM6010 To continue my thoughts: Erik Axl Sund has created a book that is engaging, gripping and extremely creepy. I would recommend checking trigger/content warnings for this book. As for me, this is going at the top of my favorites list. It‘s a book that I‘ll definitely be rereading. 📚 2mo

Finished the first book after reading the second book first. Opps! A lot about the second book is easier to understand now. I enjoyed this book but wished they had gotten to the ending a bit sooner so there was more time to go into the details. I felt like the book was filled with too much “fluff” and could have gotten to the good stuff a lot faster or into greater detail. On to the third book now.

First line: “The house was over a hundred years old, and the solid stone walls were at least a meter thick, which meant that she probably didn‘t need to insulate them, but she wanted to be absolutely sure.”

Reykjavk: A Crime Story | Ragnar Jonasson, Katrn Jakobsdttir

Valur grabbed the telephone directory and started running through the A's for Arnfrídur .. . first in Reykjavík, then systematically around the country, by postcode.

After trawling through for some time, he established to his satisfaction that there were only two women called Arnfridur Leifsdóttir currently living in Iceland.

Rather startling reminder of how small Iceland is!

This was a hard read. Hard, dark, upsetting content that I would have given up on but for the fact the plot and storytelling was so compelling. I wanted to know what happened very badly but also feel like I need to steam clean my brain. Read for my own challenge this year as a Nordic noir it was defiantly noir !

ElizaMarie Yes!!! I thought it was pretty difficult (subject matter wise) but such a good book! 4mo

The plot was quite captivating but the language was really simplistic. I wonder if it‘s the actual text or if this is a bad translation. Either way, I had no idea one of the authors is the Icelandic prime minister so that was fun.

I spent a good part of today listening to this murder mystery set in Sweden while working around the house. It‘s the first book of the Wallander series and I can see myself picking up another sometime, although I know I will never make my way through all of them. It is a great winter listen if you want something bleakly realistic rather than cozy.
