Gosh this book. It creeps up on you. The emotion, the twisty, the angst. These are traits of Klune‘s writing, and of course, the humour. My rambly review is here: https://trishtalkstexts.wordpress.com/2020/07/12/review-the-extraordinaries-by-t... #bloggingandreviewing #trishtalkstexts #lgbt #superheroes #neurodiverse #sofunny #butalsoemotional

#currentlyreading #outnow #neurodiverse #livingwithautism #digital #griefandloss I am talking about this book on the radio on Sunday, and gosh, there‘s lots to say. Full of humour and heart, Erin‘s story delivers a powerful message.

As someone who lives with ADHD, I don‘t often find characters with traits like mine. Helen Burns is an exception. She daydreams, struggles in school, & can‘t stay organized. The scene where a teacher writes “slattern” (a dirty, untidy woman) on a piece of paper & makes Helen wear it on her forehead made me 😢. It shows the shame and stigma surrounding ADHD, especially for women. I can‘t wait to read more!

Ms_T The way Helen is treated is shocking. 5y

4⭐️ This book is funny, sweet, and endearing. It is your typical romance novel with bends not normally seen. Esme speaks very little english, but doesn‘t let that stop her. Khai is on the autism spectrum, and while it may take a few lessons and finding new ways to talk to and about himself, he to is learning. Over all this was a fun romp. I cant wait till the next one.

sammisho I just finished this one and loved it! But what's the addiction? 5y
LibrarianRyan @sammisho the main character kept saying he was addicted to her. He wasn‘t in love it was an addiction. 5y

I stayed up way too late to binge read this one last night. Not only are Hoang‘s romances lovely and steamy, but I love her #neurodiverse characters and their stories. You don‘t have to read Hoang‘s “Kiss Quotient” first, but some of the minor characters star in this one.

kgriffith Does the neurodiversity get named, or is it more coded? 6y
BookInMyHands @kgriffith Autism is specifically named and talked about. The author is also Autistic. 6y
MaggieCarr I'm reading it right now too. Love the hair cut scene. 6y

I read this for the #ReadHarder Challenge for a book by/about someone who identifies as #neurodiverse. Hoang is on the autism spectrum, as is the main character Stella. I‘m not much of a romance reader, so I don‘t know how this compares to other books in the genre. But I‘m guessing romance as viewed by a person with autism is not super common. It was interesting to see dating and sexuality through that lens. Pretty graphic though.
