Good Girl, Bad Blood | Holly Jackson

So thirty minutes after I finished A Good Girl‘s Guide to Murder, I ran to the bookstore and bought the other two in the series, plus two more books. 😂 Daughter is 100 pages into Good Girl, Bad Blood… I‘m gonna catch up. 😎 #motherdaughterbookclub

Hustled through this as fast as I could at the prodding of my impatient teen daughter, who *needed* me to read it so she‘d have someone to talk about it with. I don‘t tend to gravitate to mysteries, but I loved this one. #motherdaughterbookclub

Newest addition to my #TBR pile. My daughter just finished it. We have enjoyed this series together but I have three other books I NEED to finish this month and then I start Christmas reading. But I don‘t want to wait until January. What‘s a girl to do? #villains #motherdaughterbookclub #somanybookssolittletime

Been looking forward to this, and so far I'm not disappointed 🥰 I've really enjoyed this series and sharing it with my Mum. She's going to be reading this one on kindle as she can't wait for me to finish #motherdaughterbookclub 😁

This Book Is Anti-Racist | Tiffany Jewell
post image

This is the book Maya and I are reading together in June for our summer #motherdaughterbookclub. We‘re doing a #chapteraday since each chapter has a corresponding activity.

Chapter 1 explored the meaning of “dominant culture” and asked Who Am I?

Maya also learned some new terms I hadn‘t realized she didn‘t know, including cisgender, neurodiverse, and neurotypical.

This is a great book for middle and high schoolers!

swishandflick 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 5y
alisiakae @swishandflick I don‘t need applause for doing what I should have already done. One thing I‘ve realized in all of this is while I have personally been a social justice activist for years, the heavy conversations have dropped off with maya once she hit adolescence. We talked about these things a lot when she was younger, but I wasn‘t doing the heavy lifting that comes along with parenting an angsty teen and still having these talks. ⬇️⬇️ 5y
alisiakae She‘s in a very diverse magnet middle school, and I realized I have been letting that be enough lately. It‘s not, and that was me becoming complacent. 5y

alisiakae @swishandflick I hope that didn‘t sound abrupt, I have a tendency for that. 🤣 5y
swishandflick Not too abrupt at all, I realize I probably should have provided context with the Emojis so apologies for that. I just love that (1) you have a mother daughter bookclub in general, but that (2) you are reading something so relevant together. And then I also just love that this book even exists for a younger audience (I'm not a parent and don't always realize what's out there). 5y
alisiakae @swishandflick When I picked this book up at the library, I didn‘t realize it was geared to both kids and adults, and I love that it is too! I first heard about it from one of my daughter‘s former teachers who book a few copies for other teachers at her school. 5y
JaclynW @4thhouseontheleft This book was a Kindle deal this week. I'm looking forward to digging into it. It looks like a great book that hits a lot of areas. I didn't realize it had action items at the end of each chapter. That's a bonus! I have a 17, 14 and 8 year old. My oldest 2 have been reading books like this for years but I'm realizing that I need to do more with my youngest. We do not live in a very diverse area so I have to purposefully educate 5y

Kristy's Great Idea | Ann M. Martin, Raina Telgemeier

Book 1: a new girl arrives in town and she has a secret 🙀, I realize my 🐈 #Isabel is Boo-Boo reincarnated, you do NOT call Kristy a baby 🍼, and adolescent hormones are a ragin‘!

This was so much fun!

The first two in the series have gone missing in one of my past moves, but our library finally has them on ebook! The graphic novels are lovely, but nothing compares to the originals!

CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian Have you seen the trailer for the new Netflix series? 5y
alisiakae @CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian that‘s what is prompting my reread! Can‘t wait for July 3! 5y

We‘re doing a thing!

The series that sparked a lifelong love of reading.💜

Blaire Fun!! I adored these books! There‘s a hilarious podcast where they read each of these and discuss (babysitters club club), but it is not child appropriate. 5y
alisiakae @Blaire I‘ve heard of that podcast! 5y
LiteraryinPA I LOVED this series when I was in elementary and middle school. The girls felt like my own friends! 5y

alisiakae @LiteraryinLititz me too! I had some rough years with bullying in middle school. I definitely used BSC as a coping mechanism. And also Stephen King. 🤣 (edited) 5y
Caroline2 I LOVED this series!!! 💖 5y
LaraS Gah! I love the old school covers! 😍And @Blaire I‘ve never heard of that podcast but it sounds like great fun. Pretty sure I‘m gonna spend my whole weekend on that now. 🥳 (edited) 5y
Blaire @LaraS I hope you like it!! Def start back at episode 1 because there are a lot of long-running jokes that make no sense if you start in the middle. The guys have real love for the books and their interpretations are so funny. 5y
alisiakae @LaraS These are my original books! 😍😍 One and two went missing in one of our many moves, but I have life‘s of the others! 5y

March: Book One | John Robert Lewis, Andrew Aydin, Nate Powell
post image
Pickpick

The first volume of March goes backs and forth between the day of Barack Obama‘s inauguration in 2009, and John Lewis‘s childhood and early years in the civil rights movement.

It‘s an extraordinary memoir in graphic novel format, and sparked some excellent conversations with Maya this morning. I‘m looking forward to reading the next two.

Congrats on the milestone, and thanks for the giveaway @Megabooks 🎉🎉!

The tagged book is one of my favorites of summer 2019. I‘ve read a lot of middle grade with Maya recently for our #motherdaughterbookclub, and I really loved this Young Reader‘s Editon.

Megabooks This looks interesting! #stacked Thanks for entering! 5y

I loved the first one so much I‘m moving straight into the second in the series! Maya and I decided to read both for #motherdaughterbookclub

I was going to sit outside to drink my tea, but it started raining before I could even post this! 😂😂

Lindy It‘s raining in Banff too, where I‘m visiting my brother. #Readingwhileadmiringthemountainview 6y
