#GreatLibraryChapterADay

I accidentally started reading ahead of buddyread schedule and now I'm afraid I won't be able to stop. I really need the distraction right now (life is stressful AND the air conditioner broke) and it's so good. #flogflog

@MinDea
@GarthRanzz

MinDea Don't stop! Keep reading!!!!! ?? The schedule is just to help if people need the "push" but not necessary to follow! I hope life settles down for you! 6y
tonyahoswalt Keep reading! For the schedule, we're reading a part a day and some of them are a little longer, but it makes since because the chapters are so short in this one. Still, just means that it'll all work out! 6y

How is everyone liking Ink and Bone? I am all caught up today!
#TheGreatLibraryChapterADay @GarthRanzz #InkandBone

#Chloe is not happy I told her to stop chewing on my book! #CatsOfLitsy #TuxedoKittiesOfLitsy @mcipher

MinDea I am finding this be be a mix of Harry Potter and The King Chronicler. @tonyahoswalt do you see the similarities too or is it just me? I like it but also feeling like...have I read this already ... as it seems to be taking a lot of things from other books I have read. 🤔🤔 7y
LibrarianRyan I absolutely loved it (finished about a year ago I think) currently not rereading but will pick up at Book 2. 7y

julesG Glad I'm not the only one who sees parallels to other books. I was thinking of Harry Potter and The Name of the Wind, too. More NotW than HP. I like it, but I hope there'll be a few more truly unique things added to the mix. 7y
MinDea @julesG Oh thank goodness I am not alone. I was worried I was being hard on the book. I like the story but I am hoping it changes course and finds it's own path soon. 7y
mrp27 I'm liking it so far but I agree that the story doesn't feel entirely fresh. 7y
MinDea @mrp27 I am glad you are liking it! 7y
MinDea @julesG @mrp27 & everyone else If you aren't caught up please don't unspoil my next comment but if you are please do, so we can discuss! 7y
MinDea What do you think of is "ability" to send so many books and then all those ebooks at once and not get tired or sick? Do you think he has a special ability...like the people who mirror books? Why do you think he hasn't been picked as someone to specialize in his studies? Is that good or bad? 7y
MinDea The game Go is showing up everywhere which is crazy. It is supposed to be the hardest game in the world. There is a documentary on it that I'd like to watch. Anyone seen it or played the game? 7y
mrp27 I think his ability to send so many books at once is the ink in his bones like his Da said. He definitely has some sort of secret skill set that enables him to do so and this is also the reason he hasn't been assigned individualised studies. My only question is, has anyone else figured that out. 7y
julesG @mrp27 That's my take on it, too. Although, I thought his father was joking, when he said Jess had ink in his bones. I have this crazy idea that Jess's ability is rare, hasn't been seen for centuries, and is somehow connected to the founding of the library. Like a celestial or an elemental, or whatever they are called in other stories. 7y
julesG @MinDea I've played Go a few times. I'm terrible at it. 7y
Chellebearss @MinDea @mpr27 I agree that his ability to send that many books is going to be significant and means something. I‘ve also got a very Harry Potter feel to it, which isn‘t a bad thing IMO. It‘s quite unique in other ways and I‘m really enjoying it and having trouble not reading ahead 7y
tonyahoswalt Okay, I may get ambushed for comparing this to such a big and important book, but I was thinking that this is sort of the opposite of Fahrenheit 451, since in that book they destroy all the books, and in this one books are knowledge but are highly controlled. 7y
llwheeler I'm on track with the chapter a day and really enjoying it so far! I don't see huge similarities to HP or NotW - broad genre similarities, sure, but I didn't really care for NotW too much, and this book feels way more dystopian to me so far than HP. 7y
Jovy I do feel the HP vibe as well! Not so much NotW. Am very curious about the new girl, Morgan. Itching to read ahead now 🙃 7y
WorldsOkayestStepMom I love this book so much that I've read ahead of the chapter a day. I'm almost finished with it! 7y
julesG @llwheeler Interesting, you get a dystopian vibe from the book, to me it feels very fantasy., 7y
llwheeler @julesG Oh I definitely agree it's a fantasy - I guess I don't see those as two separate/exclusive things. But for me one of the prime themes so far is the government can't be trusted/has their power been abused and is no longer doing the good it was originally granted to do. Which is not a vibe i get from HP, where it's much more chosen one vs specific enemy (granted have not reread since childhood, so grain of salt) 7y
MinDea @llwheeler The HP vibe I get is all these kids in school with an angry not very nice teacher (Snape) and each branching off to their own studies. Studying in a room together, forced to be together (common room), etc. 7y
MinDea For tNotW I get a kid with a 'sketchy' street background is accepted in to a school for the smart and gifted and are given the knowledge and power that not many are afforded. A lot do the same words and things triggered me to think HP and tNotW. Could be because I JUST read tWMF and so it is very fresh in my mind! 7y
MinDea @Chellebearss I don't think it is a bad thing but maybe because I just got through tNotW and tWMF very recently I feel like I just read this book. 🤷 7y
MinDea @tonyahoswalt I have not read that book. I know, I know...shame on me. 7y
Jovy @MinDea It has been awhile since I read Kingkillers so that could be why I didn't see it 😂I wish Pat would hurry up already so I can read it again! 7y
mrp27 @juelsG I agree, and can't wait to see what exactly he is. I meant the ink in his bones as a metaphor for his special ability. I wonder if his Da is aware or just says that in jest. 7y
mrp27 @tonyahoswalt Good point! I was thinking along the same lines. 7y
MinDea @mrp27 I feel like his dad has an ink-ling (hahaha get it?!? 😬) that there is something up with Jess and that is probably why he has him go to the library to exploit it but maybe doesn't fully know what it is/means. 7y
mrp27 @MinDea 😂😂😂 Agree! 7y
julesG What @MinDea said about tNotW and HP. My thoughts precisely 7y
GarthRanzz Wow! So glad everyone is enjoying the book and sharing their thoughts! I‘m sorry I‘ve been absent but our trip didn‘t really let me get online easily. Ive some catching up to do, posting wise, from the sounds of it! 7y
thereadingowlvina To be honest, the plot is not something new but I'm enjoying the book so far ☺ 7y
KarouBlue What is tho #greatlibrarychapteraday phenom?? 7y
mcipher Poor Chloe! It looks delicious - and I‘ve heard good things about this book for reading, too. 7y
readinginthedark I haven‘t read NotW, but I didn‘t really get a HP vibe from this book...I guess because the school is so different? It‘s much more competitive, and with the govt stuff, I definitely got more of a fantasy dystopian vibe like @llwheeler 7y
Eggbeater I do get a little bit of a Harry Potter vibe, but I am starting to really get into it. But if Dario calls Khalila his sweet desert flower one more time... 7y
