Excuse the shaky underline, but TGH & Station Eleven have some startling parallels. The most obvious is the above passage.
But more subtle is the reappearance in TGH of Leon Prevant, the shipping logician. In SE, he was Miranda‘s, Arthur Leander‘s (the actor who died at the start of SE) first wife, boss then ally at the shipping company.
Also the actual hotel is on the part of Vancouver Island where Miranda & Arthur are from. #geekingout
