Hold on, I'm still crying. I absolutely loved this book. I learned a lot about WW2, but I also got this amazing, heart-wrenching, and beautifully written story. Kristin Hannah never misses. I could read her talking about paint drying, and she could figure out how to make me think it was beautiful. This book shows the more unknown side of the war and the crucial part women played. I cannot wait to pick up more from her after I recover 5/5

Wow, what a story! If I hadn‘t been at work while reading this I would have cried my eyes out at the end. What a beautiful but heartbreaking story of two sisters living in German occupied France during WW2. I believe they are trying to make a movie from this book but I can‘t see how they will fit such story into a 2 hr movie. If you like historical fiction, I definitely recommend!

Yesterday‘s op shop purchases after ballet. Grand total 🟰 $17. It was another fabulous day at my ballet school‘s Summer Intensive. Pilates to warm up then a repertoire class learning the Aurora wedding variation from Sleeping Beauty followed by a mindfulness session. Then home for a wine and stretch. I‘m pretty sore.

BethM That‘s super cheap! 3mo

I enjoyed the story; a bit overwrought. Book 9 of 2024

Ephemera Is the painting by Thomas Hart Benton? 13mo
BkClubCare @Ephemera - maybe?! I forgot to note it and couldn‘t find when I searched. But I do recall thinking Benton, but NO. Of course, I could be misremembering THAT, too. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 13mo

Got myself a used kindle!!! Obsessed.

Reading the Nightingale for my bookclub read this month, 45% done. This book is going to shatter me I suspect..... but people seem to really love it!

I predict a 4 star read for me. I'm definitely captivated and wish I could stay up all night and day reading.

PaperbackPirate Congratulations on your Kindle. I hope you love it! 14mo
LiteraryHoarderPenny It was the last part of the book where it really picked up for me and shattered my heart and left me in a puddle of tears. 14mo

Amazing writing. Without giving spoilers, the story focuses on two women in France during World War II and their struggle to survive during the German occupation of France. There were times I gasped, cried, was upset because even though this is a historical fiction, this story was inspired by reality.

Definitely recommend reading. I look forward to reading other books by Kristin Hannah.

Hard but so moving.

One of the tougher WWII historical fictions I've read lately - but I hate when the war is romanticised so no complaints from me on that front. Each sister has such a compelling story that kept me listening.
