3✨ I wasn‘t completely engaged to this story, but enjoyed the relationship between grandmother and granddaughter. Read for #FoodandLit 2024 Finland

I want to thank #foodandlit2024 for encouraging me to choose a book from Finland. One of my best friends growing up had a Finnish dad and a Swedish mum and I was exposed to all of the best things from each culture and continue to love Scandi style above all others. This novel is a love letter to summer and Finland told in short vignettes that flip back and forth through the main character‘s , Sophia, childhood summers with her grandma and father.

mcctrish I spent most of my summers on the shores of Lake Winnipeg with my maternal grandparents and my mom ( my dad was there part of the summer) and while not nearly as isolated as island living, the floating timelessness of my days are so much like the ones in this story. There is no way kids now could ever experience this natural summer childhood and that‘s such a loss (edited) 2mo

Susanita Your summers sound wonderful. 2mo
mcctrish @Susanita absolutely they were, so many memories were stirred up with this book; my chores, the routines/traditions and all the time when I was just off on my own or with friends walking, bike riding and at the beach 😱with no supervision 2mo

This was my #FoodAndLit pick for #Finland

I liked the way the story was set out, where you learn more about Trolls as the story progresses, through snippets of stories, web searches, a vet, and as Angel discovers things by living with a troll he rescued by his apartment block.

The characters are all awful by the way 😂 but I still enjoyed the read!

My Finland reading list for #foodandlit!
As usual, I enjoyed Paasilinna. Although this book is not my favourite, I got really emotional with the Christmas themed ending. The story is about a recently deceased man who learns how to be a ghost in the afterlife.👻

The Xenophobe's guide to Finland was a quick and fun read about some of the cultural particularities that are unique to this country.

I made pyttipanna (or pyttipannu) using the Moomins cookbook 😁: it's fish, potatoes and onions fried together, and served with beetroot, gherkins and a fried egg. Easy comfort food!
(French readers will notice a spelling mistake on the page 🙄)

LiseWorks I'm sorry but fish and eggs shouldn't go together lol 3mo
Kitta Shouldn‘t it be legumes? Not legume I‘m trying to learn French! 3mo
Dilara @LiseWorks LOL I was more worried about the fried egg and pickle combo! (but it was fine 😁) 3mo

Dilara @Kitta That's right. It should be “légumes“, to agree with “aux“ which is a plural article 😁 (edited) 3mo
Kitta @Dilara 😀 I got it right!! 3mo
JulietteReadsALot @Dilara J'ai le même livre à la maison ;) Il contient des recettes sympas. 3mo
Dilara @Adventures_of_a_French_Reader Avant que je rende le livre à la bibliothèque, tu as des recettes à me recommander ? 😁 3mo
