Pickpick

All in all, this ended up being a good story, after King was done holding me hostage. The Dead Zone was definitely a precursor to dabbling in psychic powers & this has a lot of meat where TDZ was just fluffy crap. I really got to love Charlie McGee and found the characters well developed. These happen to be my favorite series of covers and I got this for Christmas in high school! #MountTBR #EpicStephenKingReread

ItsAngel I‘m glad you ended up liking it! 6y
BookBabe Great review! 6y
IamIamIam @ItsAngel A thousand times more than The Dead Zone! Of course, skimming and eye rolling notwithstanding... the relationship between Andy & Charlie was a real plus. 6y

IamIamIam @BookBabe 😂😂😂 Thanks... I like to tell it like it is! 😉 I'll always go for the jugular when it comes to King! 6y
kgriffith @brandybear22 I‘ve not read this one but did it come up as an option for your kid maybe? 6y
IamIamIam @kgriffith @brandybear22 While I was reading King at that age, I don't often recommend it. However, there is a character who is found dressed in his wife's underwear and has killed himself by putting his arm in a garbage disposal. That was the only real sexual reference above Charlie's parents, which was minimal. I'll think on other horror books that may be more appropriate. 😁 6y
brandybear22 @IamIamIam thanks, yes, I‘ll not suggest this one! 6y

Ugh... page 334 out of 401 and King is losing me... I've skimmed more than I've read of the last half of this and I'm beginning to wonder why I got caught up in the phenomena of Stephen King to start with... 😪😖 #EpicStephenKingReread

ItsAngel King is very hit or miss for me, I totally get it. 6y
IamIamIam @ItsAngel Over the years, I've lost a lot of respect for him and it's only now that I've decided go get back to it all. We broke up after one of the Dark Tower installments that I totally hated, plus he's ripped a bunch of ideas off Richard Matheson short stories. Lol, I'm going in publication order but I'll only buy books used or from the library. 😂 6y
ItsAngel I don‘t like King as a person at all, he is a mouthy asshat. As for his books, they are usually way too long and I spend a fair amount of time skimming. However, there are a handful that I love. 6y

IamIamIam @ItsAngel 🤣🤣🤣 I love it!! He holds readers hostage just to listen to himself prattle and I'm so glad that we're on the same page on that! I feel like there are so few of us! That being said, The Talisman is one of my all time favorite books, mainly because you can also feel Peter Straub yanking on King's leash, getting him back on task! Lol 6y
ItsAngel @IamIamIam I agree...prattle on 😂😂😂 I‘ve never read The Talisman. I love Duma Key and Lisey‘s Story...it‘s been years since I‘ve read them now though. There are a lot more King books that I start and don‘t finish than ones I do finish. I currently have Desperation, Needful Things, 11/22/63 and The Outsider sitting on my shelf halfway finished and no plan to attempt to finish them. 🤷🏼‍♀️I MADE myself finish IT.... 6y
ItsAngel @IamIamIam I got through IT only because I was listening and reading. Big meh. I did like the Bill Hodges series and I liked Gwendy‘s Button Box. 6y
IamIamIam @ItsAngel My husband was reading just the grown up parts of IT before the movie came out but I'm not sure how far he got. @timg138 I took a year long break after The Stand because it was 3 months of my life I'll never get back!!! I do remember enjoying Desperation and I loved Needful Things, expect the ending was total shit, in true King fashion. The film ending was so much more fitting!!! 6y
IamIamIam @ItsAngel At the rate I'm going, I'll be catching up to Gwendy's Button Box in my 60s!!! 😂😂😂 6y
ItsAngel @IamIamIam I remember liking The Stand but not sure I would now. IT just had so much needless detail in it, I wouldn‘t how many pages I rolled my eyes through?! 😂😂 Gwendy was a short and fast read. 6y

The Bell Jar | Sylvia Plath

Does anyone use a TBR Jar? I've tried this once before but it didn't stick. I just need to get these unread books managed!!! I feel like a hoarder but doing a few challenges at once doesn't help either. What do you guys do to manage the hoards when they take over? #LitsyAtoZ #EpicStephenKingReread #1001books #Passportlitsy #totallyoutofcontrol

MaleficentBookDragon We used one in a book club I was in. I was consider trying it for myself. I plan on picking my top 25 or so books and pick from those. 7y
IamIamIam @MaleficentBookDragon It seems like a great idea for a book club! I thought I could manage the challenges with, like, "wild cards" or a slip that indicates a challenge book instead of a specific TBR book. 7y
kricheal I have 2 tbr jars one for non fiction and the other for fiction. ARCs take priority over those. Oh and jars are for only print books. Overdrive, audible, Amazon prime, and serial reader all kind of work around it...ok I lied I'm am unorganized mess over here 😂😂😂 In my head it all seems like a totally organized system, trying to explain it...well 🤷‍♀️ 7y
See All 17 Comments
IamIamIam @kricheal I hear organized chaos & that's a concept I'm COMPLETELY familiar with!!!! So your TBR is a loose organizing system you kind of use to make yourself feel better about the list? Sounds like my book buying ban bullet journal!!!! 😂😂😂 Lasted me 6 weeks!!! 🤗😚 7y
kricheal @IamIamIam YES! Also I stress for some reason about what book I'm going to read next before I'm finished reading my current print. WHY am I letting books give me "book picking" anxiety? Life is hard enough. Hence my luck of the draw jars. That's what I call them. My teenage kids even make fun of me for them?? 7y
Crewgurl Yeah, I don‘t think you‘ll find much help with this problem here 😂 I use Bookbuddy, which at least helps me keep track of what I have!!! 7y
IamIamIam @kricheal Hahaha, I'm loving this complex code more and more as we go along! 😂😂😂 7y
IamIamIam @Crewgurl I think I'm looking for that one super organized person to reassure me that it's possible and not just a Pinterest fail waiting to happen, cute mason jars or not! 🤣 7y
kricheal @IamIamIam It gets better. I bought the brightest neon multicolored 4" x 4" block note paper to make it aesthetically pleasing to look at AND I keep a list of everything I that is TBR and cross reference to make sure that I don't forget to add something to the jar 7y
kricheal If I could just stick to print, I'd be golden. 7y
Eggs I just have to STEEL myself to Do It:: whittle down the tbr. I did go through my kindle books and my physical books and yanked (for sale or donate)or deleted what I knew I'd never read-Sheesh 7y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I have one. Haven't used it yet. I'm such a moody reader, I'm worried I'll pick a book I don't want to read. 7y
TrishB I get my daughter to pick when I get overwhelmed! She just asks any themes you don‘t want to read today! It usually works great 👍🏻 7y
IamIamIam @kricheal That's the real problem. And the library has SOOOOO many cool books I don't have!!! Lol, I think the wild cards could help with that so I'm not beholden to only my books! 7y
IamIamIam @Eggs Those free Kindle books are a KILLER! They're so hit and miss and then they're the first in a series and I get so angry because I just don't like committing to a series!!! Lol 7y
IamIamIam @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I know, I'm the same way. Maybe we could do a 50 page limit and if we're not feeling it after 50, it can ripen on the bookshelf until it gets picked again. So many stipulations!!!! 😂 7y
IamIamIam @TrishB That's a great option! The last time my daughter chose a book for me, my husband and I were going into the city on the train & she picked a Richard Russo book... I need a little bit less chaos than a train ride for Russo's overly descriptive prose so I downloaded Red Rising instead! 😂😂 7y

The Stand | Stephen King

Panpan

I have finished The Stand. I have gotten almost 4 months older in that time. I stuck it out, though, and will DEFINITELY never ever read this again! You want a post apocalyptic society? You can absolutely find better books than this one. Stephen King and I are breaking up for a while so I'll restart the #EpicStephenKingReread in 2018.

TrishB Love differing views! This is my all time fav King and probably one of my fav books 😀 7y
IamIamIam You're definitely not the only person I've heard that from, @TrishB!!! I realize I'm in a small minority. I feel like I would have been happier with the abridged version because I felt there was just SO much repetition. The Talisman is my favorite book and I think that Straub helps get King back on track in that one. I do liken King to an ex I know isn't any good for me but I keep going back for more! 😂 7y
IamIamIam And @Josie, I can finally take a breather!!!! LMAO 7y

Reagan I love unpopular opinions! I think The Stand is great, but I like to see differing views too. 7y
IamIamIam @Reagan-reads @TrishB As someone who didn't really like it, I'm curious to know what your favorite things about the book. Obvious answers like Nick & Tom aside... LOL and yes, I loved them both. 😄 7y
BookBabe Lol! I had a feeling you were going in this direction 😝 7y
IamIamIam @BookBabe I'm not going to lie, it was hard! On a scale of James Joyce to Dr. Seuss, I'd give it an Ayn Rand. 😂😂😂😂 7y
TrishB Mother Abigail. Randall Flagg. The whole good v evil spiritual thing and just cos I love SK 💜 hard to articulate when you just click with a book. 7y
ferskner YES. Also hated this, but didn't stick it out. 7y
Cinfhen This might be the first SK pan I've seen on Litsy 😱I love #unpopularopinion posts!!! 7y
IamIamIam @ferskner Life is too short!!! Lol 7y
Reagan Obviously Nick is the best! Now forgive me because it‘s been years, but I love The early stuff, all the death and destruction. I found it less draggy than IT, which I though at points was a bit too wordy. And I think Flagg was such an amazing villain. I just connected with a lot of the characters. I should reread it and see what I think now! (edited) 7y
ferskner EXACTLY. I used to NEVER quit books, but I got halfway through that one and suddenly realized I didn't have to read it. 7y
IamIamIam @Cinfhen I accepted a long time ago that I didn't have to LOVE SK like I used to and that I didn't have to be afraid to say so! 😂😂 He and I broke up over The Dark Tower 7 and it's been a tenuous relationship since! 7y
IamIamIam @Reagan-reads Not gonna lie but this time around, because of The Dark Tower movie, all I saw was Matthew McConaughey as Flagg!!! Not an awful visual, mind you!!! LOL 7y
Reagan Haha that‘s the only reason why I plan to read those books next year! The visual is so good 😍 7y
RadicalReader @IamIamIam what‘s your favorite Stephen King novel when you first got into his writing? 7y
IamIamIam I read Misery with my mom in 6th grade, @RadicalReader. She had it from the library and I'd read it whenever she wasn't!!! Lol, I dove in headfirst in that mid 90s run and always loved the short story collections. Night Shift remains one of my favorite books. What got you into his books? 7y

IamIamIam @Josie 3 MONTHS!!! Lol, I guess in the grand scheme of things that's not really THAT bad and I have been polygamous so I'm not missing out too badly but GOD, I just want this to end! LOL, thanks for the support!!! 🤓 7y

After taking a month off, I am jumping right back in to my chronological Stephen King reread! This is one of the few books I have never read from King. I am so excited for Shawshank and The Body!! #epicstephenkingreread #book15 #1982

TheNextBook I hadn't read this either till a few months ago! It was good. 7y
kristinshafel Yes! I loved this collection. Apt Pupil and The Breathing Method too. Sooo good! 7y
Josie @TheNextBook @kristinshafel I've heard such great things about each novella!! I was so eager to get to this one, I think that's why I had to bail on Danse Macabre! 7y

peaKnit So good, the Apt Pupil also 👍🏻 I can't remember The Breathing Method, so I think I need a reread too! 7y
ReadingsByTheC I'm so excited for you! This is one of my favorite Stephen King books. I just did a re-read last month! 7y
Josie @ReadingsByTheC YAY!!! Growing up, I was not a huge fan of novellas. So I never read any of King's collections. I LOVE novellas now, though! It's so fun to be reading some of his work for the first time. 7y
LauraBeth So glad to see you back! 7y

Bailedbailed

Alright, my lovely littles of Litsy, I have spammed your feeds over the last 24 hours with all of the books that I read during my Litsy absence (and yes, I am back, it's good to see you all!) Not only did I take a Litsy hiatus, but I also took a break from my #EpicStephenKingReread. Now, im ready to continue it, but I have made the decision to DNF this one. It's actually the reason I took a hiatus in the first place. Continued in comments...

Josie While I love King, I have found that I am not too interested in the horror genre from 1950-1980. Call me a basic bitch, but I just don't have the interest. I have also decided to remove the remaining Bachman books from my reread as well. I am ready to get back into King novels and storytelling! 7y
TheNextBook I had the same issue. And what really sucked with this book was how few of the references I got. So while I was enjoying learning, a lot of what he said went over my head!! 7y
TheNextBook Ok, I know you cut Bachman but if you make it through Desperation read the Regulators because the way he did those two novels is really cool! 7y
See All 7 Comments
Josie @TheNextBook OH GIRL. I have read both of those, I just forgot that The Regulators is under Bachman. I'll definitely be including that one!!! 7y
TheNextBook I read those two back to back and was blown away! I kept asking myself what the fuck was happening! Such a damn mind trip. 😂 7y
Reggie @TheNextBook I love those two, and the fact that he used the same characters in both but different settings was pretty cool. One of my worst nightmares I ever had came from the Regulators. 7y
TheNextBook @Reggie Dak! Desperation was pretty intense... 7y
