I‘ve already finished one book in September. Which is one more than I finished in August. So, I‘ve got that going for me. In my defense, today was my first day off work since July 28th. Here‘s to a much better month of reading (and relaxing). #BookspinBingo

pickWhen I was ten years old my then fifteen-year-old cousin was admitted to a lock-down facility for non-compliant youth because she would not treat her type 1 diabetes and seemed to be literally wasting away. I have no idea if her experience was anything like Jake‘s, but his story painfully illustrates how lonely and difficult that healing process must have been. I‘m grateful for this look into the psyche of someone living with anorexia nervosa.

pickJohn Schu‘s YA novel told in verse form is an incredibly moving book based on his own experiences of having an eating disorder. I felt desperately sympathetic to the vulnerable Jake whose relationship with his grandmother is clearly very important to him but more could have been made of his relationship with his parents, which is much too lightly sketched and should have been explored given his mum‘s anxiety issues seem to feed into Jake‘s.
pickA raw, honest, and emotional novel in verse that ultimately feels like a triumph while shedding light on a painful journey towards self-acceptance.
Sometimes, it's only through books that we (kids) can find this.

pickA hard book to read, but definitely an eye opener for someone who has never experienced body dysmorphia or an eating disorder. And those who have, this book is very validating and helpful. 💕
so-soThis book is okay. I probably would have read this book when I was a teenager. I feel like if someone reads this book, it needs to have warnings to go along with it. I rated this book a 3 out of 5 stars.
I decided to start this book tonight. I won this book from a Goodreads giveaway but I decided to listen to this book on audio. So far, I‘m not feeling emotionally invested in the story and I don‘t know what to think about the writing style even though the chapters are short. This book is kind of sad but I want to give it more time before I decide to DNF it.
