A Wish in the Dark | Christina Soontornvat

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander month so that our theme this Monday! #AAPI

Christina Soontornvat wrote the tagged book- a Thai-inspired retelling of Les Mis with magical elements that rocked my world and in doing so became a must-read author for me! In this version, the daughter of the prison warden hunts down a prison-born boy who is trying to escape his doomed life.

What titles would you recommend for #MiddleGradeMonday ?

Mehso-so

This book for me was so-so everything was everywhere in this book one happy scene than it would quickly switch to a intense scene. I'd still read it when I get bored for nostalgic reasons 6/10 for me.

For the people who have read this book you'll understand.

This was such a fun and empowering story!

I love fashion and I grew up in the Silicon Valley so naturally I loved the premise and thought it was executed well. The portrayal of the fashion industry and the tech industry felt current and tackled issues commonly seen in today‘s world (for example, influencers photoshopping their photos before posting them).

What a wonderful novella this is! Full of descriptions of #Kerala's natural world. It is somewhat edifying, possibly even condescending (it was written in 1951 and things have moved on since then), but counterbalanced by humour and the type of characters we love to hate.

I picked up this concept art for work at the LQ auction in 2023. I was already stoked, but then Vo added this sweet card AND sent me a holiday card. I put the art on display, but I can‘t way to integrate it more meaningfully into programming.
