115 books later. This year was often difficult as far as reading goes. I gave my fewest ever number of 5-star ratings and read very little non-fiction. But that was me, not the books. So instead of a #Top21of2021, I‘m doing a #Top12of2021. These were all gems and I am grateful to have spent time with them this year. Here‘s to greater focus, peace, and serenity in 2022! Happy New Year! 🥂
Tagged was one of my #Top21of2021 and is a kindle deal today. Written by multiple POC authors, It‘s interconnected short stories that take place during a NYC blackout.
And of course, Woodson‘s Red at the Bone is amazing like all her work. $1.99 today.
pick#12booksof2021 for June is this maddening, but epically researched narrative nonfiction about the greed and corruption of the Sackler family. The devastation caused by OxyContin to untold numbers of families was apparent but did not stop their company, Purdue Pharma from cranking out an ungodly amount of pills which the government did nothing to stop for far too long.
This easily could have made my #top21of2021
Had some fun with Word Art to make a collage of my top books of 2021. Each of these books stood out in their own way and lingered with me. And although I did try to narrow it to the #top21of2021 I couldn't decide which to cut, so it's 22.

I‘m inspired by @BarbaraBB and I‘m going to begin posting books that I loved but didn‘t make it onto my final #top21of2021 list.
This is book is so original, thought-provoking, even annoying (on purpose), and heartbreaking. Just as real life is and that‘s an epic accomplishment. Reminiscing about this book makes me think it definitely should have made my favorites list! 😑

I am sharing my almost-favorites of the year. The ones who didn‘t make my #Top21Of21 but are favorites nevertheless. One for each month.
This was a favorite of #August. I was swept away by this fast paced story from the first page. What a ride!
Somehow I regrettably missed this one for my #Top21Of2021 , but this was my best read in #March .
Gies, one of the group of Otto Frank‘s employees who helped the Frank family as they lived in the Annex, tells the heartbreaking story of her time with the Franks and the moment that they were discovered. A remarkable story and personally one I think should be read with Anne Frank‘s diary. #12BooksOf2021
pickI really liked this, but perhaps not as much as I‘d hoped from other Litsy reviews. I expected it to be knocking on the door of my #top21of2021 but instead it was more of a solid 8 out of 10.
I loved learning a bit about Colombia, and appreciated the balanced view of immigration to the US. However I thought the ending was a bit rushed, and was perhaps a bit too positive to be realistic.
