Can't believe I havent read this til now! What a thought provoking story! Firemen go around burning books. Reading, books & free thinking become outlawed, no one engage in real conversations, people's ears plugged in with a device, eyes watching LED screens on walls at home 24/7! A scary world that could happen if we let it. Can't stop thinking about this book!
Highly recommend if you enjoy #1984, #BraveNewWorld or #TheGiver

BooknerdsLife And I need to thank my teenage daughter who recommended this book to me few years ago! She certainly has good taste in books! 6y
teainthelibrary It took me forever to pick it up also, and I felt the same exact way - should've picked it up a lot sooner. Great book! 6y
CarolynM It's not long since I read it for the first time and I reacted in much the same way. There's always a reason why a book becomes a classic. 6y
BooknerdsLife @teainthelibrary IKR! Love it so much! But I‘m glad I read it now as an adult instead of during high school. Don‘t think I‘d have appreciated it as much 6y
BooknerdsLife @CarolynM So true! I can‘t stop thinking about this one and just couldn‘t recommend it enough! 6y

Finished this book and liked reading the physical copy way more than listening to this audiobook. Overall I really enjoyed it as a dystopian book, but Jonas never really grew on me. I wanted to know more of how the got where they ended up as a whole society. And that ending!!! I liked what I thought happened and not whatbthe rest of the book series says happened. If you know, you know. #TheGiver #LoisLowry

Started this one this morning while trying to stay quiet in my hotel room while others still slept. This one is moving much more quickly than the last book I read!
Trying to knock this one off my #NetGalley list so I can request some more!
Will be starting #TheGiver too (for #MakeMeReadIt) but this one I could read on my kindle without turning on the lights 😂

I picked up this novel because a colleague and I will be teaching #thecityofember + problem-based learning with a teacher next month.... Great, great #dystopian read for upper elementary or middle school readers. It would be a nice companion to #thegiver!

Day 9 of #MarchMadness is #Utopia - I always felt like The Giver was like a glass house utopia.
Uptopian & Dystopian Novels are a hit or miss for me.
Also, I couldn‘t find my copy of the book, I‘ve been unpacking from a recent move - so here‘s a current book stack!😃🙌❤️📚

"Do you love me?"..."Jonas...Precision of language, please!"..."Your father means that you used a very generalized word, so meaningless that it's become almost obsolete". (Page 127) #loislowry #thegiver
