Once I started I could not stop reading. I found the story compulsive and kind of suffocating. The husband was so appalling - so self righteous, so unreliable, so unappreciative - I kept thinking “how dare he?”. I was beyond anger and into claustrophobia. While her relationship was outside my experience (and I recognise more than ever how lucky I am in mine) the description of caring for a small child was very relatable. #ToB2025 👇

Jas16 Wasn‘t he terrible? This was definitely a book that gets under your skin. 2d
CarolynM ☝️Would I have voted for this over The Wedding People if I‘d read it in time? I‘m not sure. I liked the broader range of TWP and the fact that it incorporated a little humour, but this is a very powerful book and I‘ll be interested to see how far it gets in the official tournament. 2d
CarolynM @Jas16 Yes, truly terrible! And I liked that there were specific examples of his behaviour so you weren‘t left wondering how reliable her version of events was. 2d

Tamra I think I started this on audio, but I quit thinking it would be better in print. 2d
BkClubCare Intense 2d
Hooked_on_books I think “suffocating” is the perfect descriptor for this book. 2d
thecheckoutstack I flew through this one too 2d
squirrelbrain I agree with ‘suffocating‘. I did vote for this over TWP - it felt more like a ToB book to me. 2d
BarbaraBB Well said. I felt that way too. 2d
Cathythoughts Great review! Stacked. 2d

I absolutely adored this book. A coming of age story about a possible alien born right around the same year I was? Yes, please. This is the second audiobook in a row that I‘ve listened to where I wanted to buy a paper copy so I can underline all of the parts I loved. This is now my pick for #TOB2025 and likely to be a favorite this year.

BarbaraBB A game changer for you, I noticed in your voting 😀🥰 4d
Bookwormjillk @BarbaraBB haha, yup. I changed my vote before I finished reading! 4d
Lesliereadsalot Such an imaginative read, right? 4d

Thank you @DebinHawaii for promoting this initiative and to so many for participating- these posts give me joy 🤩

1. My poem-a-day project continues 🤗
2. Choc Cherry Hazelnut Tart for Feb 20 🍒 🥧 Day!
3. Should Copper be a #ToB2025 mascot 🐶❤️📚❓
4. One fun distraction at work was to rank the #ToB titles.
5. I set a New Year goal to frame/hang artwork; finally began that project. Took advantage of sales at JoAnn Fabric.

Oh man. George recommending books he never read. I can see why people say this is funny. But it‘s kind of we have to laugh so we don‘t cry funny, you know? #TOB2025

BarbaraBB I hear such mixed things about this book but will read it myself one of these days 4w
Bookwormjillk @BarbaraBB I‘m not finding it as torturous as others have, but I‘m only about 30% in. 4w

I liked this first Poirot novel enough that #christiescapers made my final #weeklyfavorite for January but I didn't love it. Red herrings everywhere, and so much talking it almost felt like a play, but an impressive 1st novel! My favorite reads this month are all from the #tob2025 longlist (one from the shortlist) so I'm happy to see it is still capable of introducing me to new authors to watch.
Lots of books in January! And a #bookspinbingo! 🔽

Larkken I finished both #bookspin and #doublespin books, one each #roll100 #readyourebooks and #auldlangspine picks, and our #LSFBC buddy read. I enjoyed both Redshirts and The Gilded Ones and plan to continue reading from @Lin3han list - in fact September House just came in from the library! In comparison February is off to a slow reading start, but I'm ok with that 😌 1mo
Lin3han @Larkken Same here for your list! I‘m just waiting on tons of holds from Libby and hoopla. I loved September House much more than Gilded Ones so I hope you love it too!! 1mo
TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Fantastic month!! 1mo

I enjoyed this book and how it used a youth sports competition in Reno, NV to frame the lives of the 8 contestants. The last chapter was a little weird, maybe? But Reno is a weird place, so whatever I guess. #tob #tob2025 #tob25

My very messy February list. I‘m working on reading down my TBR, various challenges, and getting ready for #TournamentofBooks2025. My free spaces will be devoted to more #TOB2025, my big stack of ARCs, and of course the #NancyDrewBuddyRead. February is a short month but my list is long. Just saying I could use another blizzard.

TheBookHippie I could be snowed in again. 😂 1mo
sarahbarnes I would definitely take a blizzard. 😆 1mo

This was my most anticipated #TOB2025 title. I live in a city in Virginia with a large Ethiopian population so I thought I would learn more about my new neighbors. Haha no. That‘s not at all what this was. This was a fever dream that jumped all over the place and I‘m not even sure what happened to be honest. I‘m not mad. Just confused. Still a pick, but don‘t ask me any questions 😂

TrishB Great review 👍🏻 1mo
squirrelbrain Ha! Perfect review! 1mo
CarolynM I‘m reading this at the moment. Not sure what to make of it yet, but your review gives me hope🙂 1mo
Bookwormjillk @CarolynM you just kind of need to go with it. 1mo

Finally, my in-hand so-excited-for hardcover edition of #ToB favorite! Posed with a cooperative Copper - look at that face! Starting this as my last #ToB2025 entry that I am sure I devour but want to savor and not pressure through #ifyouknowwhatImean. Through my reading, I am having a lovely January ❄️ 🌟

Btw, Jan 23 is National Pie Day! 🥧 grab a slice 😁

Isn‘t this just THE cutest pic of my dear departed Esther? My current iPhone‘s screensaver. So, I am 5+ minutes in so far and will listen as I walk Copper or drive to/fro from work. Am just ready to endure this mediocre white boy. #LFG #ToB2025
