Finding Me: A Memoir | Viola Davis

We are having CRAZY awesome warm weather 🙏🏻🙏🏻 so I have been racing home to move my raised garden beds across my patio. The awful part will be recreating the interlocking brick back on the other side 🤣🤣 my tomatoes are going to be contenders this year 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🍅🥬🥒🌶️

mcctrish @TheBookHippie every year since I put them in on the other side I have lamented putting them there, every year I let my husband talk me out of moving them. He‘s going to be so pleased when I tell him recreating the original spot‘s interlocking brick is his special job 🤣🤣🤣 2y

This has been on my TBR list since it was recommended to me several years ago. Glad I finally got to it! Present day America…except the Civil War never happened. It was a slow start, but picked up after about 10% and only got better and better. Severals twists and turns that kept me guessing what would happen next. Great world building by the author and excellent choice in narrator, William DeMerritt. I‘ll be thinking about this one for awhile.

Librarybelle I‘ve wondered about this one…not necessarily on my tbr list, but it had piqued my curiosity. Great review! 2y
Cinfhen I loved this one!!! Such a believable premise. Made me want to read more by the author, bit of course I never did. - #Storyofmylife #GoodIntentions 2y

Rearranging my bookshelves 🥰 It looks like I'm down to only 6 Japanese mysteries and thrillers...

vivastory Thanks for posting this! I have been meaning to read this Shimada book as I really enjoyed Tokyo Zodiac Murders when I read it several yrs ago. I also greatly enjoyed the Higashimo & all of the others are on my TBR 2y
RaeLovesToRead @vivastory I've just ordered myself a few more off Amazon. Will post them when they arrive. It's a shame that more haven't been translated / or are tricky to get hold of. I wouldn't say I "enjoyed" the Tokyo zodiac murders because there was A LOT of women being chopped up in it, but I respected it enough to want to read another. 2y
BarbaraBB Please share them, you know I‘m a sucker for Japanese thrillers and mysteries too. Have you read these? 2y

RaeLovesToRead @BarbaraBB Ooh, thanks for the recommendations!! 👀 I will check them out... (and probably Add to Basket 🙈) 😁 2y
MicheleinPhilly I‘ve bought a bunch of these based on @BarbaraBb‘s reviews but have yet to read any of them. 🤦🏻‍♀️ #StoryofMyLife 2y
RaeLovesToRead @MicheleinPhilly I suggest starting with The Master Key ❤ it's a good'un 😊 2y
MicheleinPhilly I stacked it at some point! 2y
BarbaraBB @MicheleinPhilly I know what you mean 🤣🧡 2y
MicheleinPhilly I have read People Who Eat Darkness. I read it while my wife was away on a business trip which was idiotic of me. @BarbaraBB 2y
RaeLovesToRead @BarbaraBB @MicheleinPhilly I don't tend to read true crime stories (I'm a sensitive soul!). Perhaps I should, as it would diversify my experience. It frightens me what horrible deeds humans are capable of 😔 2y
BarbaraBB @MicheleinPhilly You‘re right, that‘s a book you should read in the sunshine surrounded by people! 2y

I loved this ♥️ I loved the authors first book (Augusta Hope) and this is similar in the sense that it deals with loss, love, families and friends. There are a lot of sad themes here but all dealt with in a way that‘s not too depressing. There was one sad bit where I had to not cry on the train!
She also didn‘t go for the neat ending which I liked.

MicheleinPhilly I‘m sure I‘ll read it in 2 years. ☺️ 2y
MicheleinPhilly @squirrelbrain #StoryOfMyLife Are you feeling better, Helen? 2y
squirrelbrain Just about back to normal @MicheleinPhilly - apart from an annoying cough. How are you doing? 2y
MicheleinPhilly @squirrelbrain Same with the cough. It is driving me BONKERS. 😡 2y

Pickpick

A much more successful book club read though very heavy for the month we‘ve just had in the U.S. More than a little disconcerting to read about civil war and a coup when...well you know. Still, Adichie‘s writing is so skillful it transports you completely to Nigeria. And all of the central characters are so richly developed. 4⭐️

TheBookStacker I love her writing so much. Americanah is one of my top 10 favorite books. 4y
MicheleinPhilly @TheBookStacker It‘s been an age since I‘ve read it but it‘s one of my favorites too. 4y
BarbaraBB @TheBookStacker @MicheleinPhilly Mine too! Someone on Litsy said me this one is even better: 4y
MicheleinPhilly @BarbaraBB Looks like I already stacked it, who knows when. ☺️ #storyofmylife 4y

And I've already changed my mind about prompt number 4 for #Booked2020.

Cinfhen Hahahahaha 😂you‘re allowed!!! #StoryOfMyLife 5y
Sace @Cinfhen whew! Glad I'm not breaking any rules! 5y
ChasingOm That‘s a GREAT choice. When I saw that prompt, I wanted to read it again. 😂 5y
Sace @ChasingOm both books have been sitting on my shelf for a while, but I decided I'd rather read a female author. 5y

A group of students from a private girls‘ school near Melbourne have a picnic near Hanging Rock. A few go to explore the rocks on their own. Three of the girls and one of their teachers go #missing in unusual circumstances. A fascinating story.

I think just about everybody has read this one except me but I finally started it on audio this afternoon. I was worried the narrator was going to annoy me, but I pretty quickly got used to her voice and am completely engrossed in the story so far.

Freespirit I haven‘t read it yet. Hope to...one day!! 5y
