Found this at Half Price books and snagged it since I‘ve been trying to collect the BOTM books 🖤
And I found a new bookmark.

I read this trio of three SUPER dark books lately and haven‘t been able to stop considering the ways that they intersect. No spoilers, but there‘s some *great* discussion here just waiting to happen! (Trigger warnings all over the place, though.)

I may be a sucker for a thriller but this book swept me up in a new storyline, lovable and loathsome characters and an ending I am still on the fence about. Mike and V were a love storm that never really ended, or did it? Depends on how you read it. #istilldontknow #doyou? #AramintaHall #OurKindofCruelty #pageturner

morevna When does a book qualify as a chunkster? Also, I love this term 😍😂 7y
Jess7 Haha! Thanks! I‘ve seen other people use the term. I‘m not 100 percent sure — but it was thick. I think it might have been over 600 pages but I‘m not 100 percent on what qualifies - maybe just whatever you consider large? 🤗 @morevna 7y
britt_brooke @jess7 Great month! I consider anything over 500 pages a chunkster, but I think it‘s subjective. 😄 @morevna 7y
Karkar I think it is totally subjective. I think anything over 500 pages is a chunkster. 7y
laurenlovesliterature 😮😮😮😮👏👏👏👏 7y
Jess7 Thanks this only happens when my previous month‘s stats were like 2-4 books — bc a lot of these were started the previous month. I always have like 2, then 11, then 3 or 4, etc... Low months followed by high months lol @laurenlovesliterature 7y

3/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I wanted to like this book more than I actually did. It was fast-paced in parts and very slow in others. One character‘s obsessiveness drove me a bit nuts—although I didn‘t dislike either of the main characters. The trial felt repetitive of the 100s of pages I already read, revealing only a few things I hadn‘t already learned. I kept hoping for an exciting twist that never happened, and I felt the ending was disappointing. #jpbookreview

Jess7 @JoScho here is my review 7y
Jess7 Also— I‘m not sure the description of this book as one of the nastiest thrillers written in years in the tagline fits. In fact that almost made me shy away from reading it, but I did not find the writing to be particularly graphic and I wouldn‘t describe the plot or the characters as nasty. Disturbing, sure— delusional, definitely—but not nasty. Parts of it were dark, but not nearly as dark as a Gillian Flynn book. (edited) 7y

JoScho Thanks for the tag 😊 I might hold off on this one for now. 7y
AmyG Good review. Thanks. 7y
Jess7 You might like it. @JoScho . I might have had too high of expectations, but for me I needed a twist. Some people have compared it to You by Caroline Kepnes. I have only read half of that one, but that one seems to have a higher level of creepiness bc Joe was a stranger to Beck at first whereas Mike is not and Joe was more strategic and actually killed people or attempted to kill people that stood in his way. You is definitely darker and creepier. 7y
Jess7 Have you read it @AmyG - I‘m curious to hear others‘ thoughts. 7y
Jess7 I should add that thinking of it in the context of a debut author, it was well written and I would definitely read a second book. I‘m just really disappointed by the ending. 7y
LiteraryAries I thought the story was just okay. I understood what the author was trying to say about what goes on during trials but I was still waiting for a twist that never came. 7y
AmyG I have not read this but it was in my radar. Now, maybe not so much. 7y
Jess7 Yeah, I agree with you. If this was supposed to be more focused on that I think it should have been marketed differently. I thought the cover with the bloody chains or whatever that is on the cover doesn‘t fit at all, and the description by Gillian Flynn felt really off to me. @LiteraryAries 7y
Jess7 You might really like it if you go into it with different expectations. Just don‘t be expecting a twist.. I think has my expectations been managed better I might I‘d liked it better and not been so disappointed by the wrap up and ending. @AmyG 7y
LiteraryAries @Jess7 The cover was the necklace 7y
Jess7 Ohhh, that makes more sense. I don‘t think I noticed the Eagle on it and it seems really long. I still don‘t see the eagle, but I‘ll have to look at my copy at home. It just looked like metal wire or something to me. @LiteraryAries (edited) 7y
TheFunkyBookworm Thanks for the tag- I was looking forward to your review! I‘m going to give it a go...but it may have slipped down a couple places in the tbr stack lol 7y

I can‘t decide on Circe or Then She was Gone for my #Botm selection! Help!!!

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I chose only one!!! Beads!! 🤷🏼‍♀️ 7y
Jess7 I picked up both on my second account (and a couple others on my main account!) My main #bookofthemonth was #OurKindOfCruelty (added #TheAnimators and #Beads) and on my second account my main pick was #Thentherewerenone and my add on was #Circe (bc Litsy has been going crazy for that). Checkout my botmspoilers post on my page if you want to see what others were thinking before they were available. 7y
vkois88 🤔🤔🤔 I'd probably pick Then She Was Gone. I have to look into it, but that title draws me in. Circe has a beautiful cover and has definitely been floating around Litsy a lot lately... Sadly, I don't have BOTM, but sometimes I can find things turned in to the local used bookstore. They had a copy of The Animators last week I may try to go back and get tomorrow 😊 7y
