4 ⭐ This book is based on a true story of a humpback whale caught in fishing line. It is done in a perfect picture book format with an easy read, and a cadence that is pleasant. It tells a story that is so thrilling and harrowing and has a happy ending. The illustrations are lovely and the info in the back is spot on. This is a great resource for anybody who wants to know more about whales.

I am torn on so-so and a pick, so pick it shall be! This book taught me some interesting facts about the Brooklyn Bridge and showcases a woman who was significant to women's history in the United States. It felt a little boring to me, but it also felt like it had an empowering tone. I liked the illustrations as well. #NonfictionPicturebook #Picturebook

Lovely #nonfictionpicturebook #biography of the boy who became President. I particularly enjoyed learning how he worked hard to overcome his stutter (memorizing poetry, experimenting with marbles…). The book itself does not mention the death of his wife and daughter or of his son later on, but these events are included in a timeline at the end of the book. #JoeBiden

youngreadrshelf Do you think it would be good for middle grade readers? 3y
BookishMarginalia @youngreadrshelf I‘m a fan of picture books for all readers, so yes — they are great springboards for conversation and further research in a really accessible, appealing way. 3y
youngreadrshelf @BookishMarginalia thanks. I also like using books as a way to start conversations in my classroom. 3y

#nonfictionpicturebook about African American aviator #JamesHermanBanning and how he fell in love with planes as a child. He eventually became the first black pilot to fly across the US. His story is one about passion, perseverance, and the insidious nature of racism. It includes an author‘s note about the research and a list of sources. #DiverseBooks #aviation

Charming #nonfictionpicturebook about how #EmilyWarrenRoebling took over her husband‘s duties as chief engineer of the #BrooklynBridge when he became incapacitated. She successfully led the project to completion at a time when women couldn‘t vote or even access credit on their own. Has sources as well as an interesting list of six strange facts about the bridge.

This is a terrific #nonfictionpicturebook #biography of the inventor of the Crayola, #EdwinBinney. It includes a photo spread explaining the modern method of producing Crayolas, as well as a short note with more biographical info, and a selected bibliography of primary and secondary sources. It‘s beautifully illustrated by #StevenSalerno and written by #NataschaBiebow.
