#Mud

Clap When You Land | Elizabeth Acevedo

I know too much of mud.
I know that when a street doesn‘t have sidewalks
& water rises to flood the tile floors of your home,
learning mud is learning the language of survival.
I know too much of mud.
How Tía will snap at you with a dishrag if you track it inside.
How you need to raise the bed during hurricane season.
How mud will dry & cling stubbornly to a shoe.
Or a wall…

@TheSpineView

DebbieGrillo Mud that suctions & slurps at the high heels
of the working girls I once went to school with.
Mud that softens, unravels into a road leading nowhere.
& mud got a mind of its own. Wants to enwrap
your penny loafers, hug up on your uniform skirt.
Press kisses to your knees & make you slip down to meet it.
“Don‘t let it stain you,” Tía‘s always said.

Duck in the Truck | Jez Alborough

Ryan, thank you - I love it! I‘m looking forward to reading with a book hugger, I‘ve never used one before - it‘s so cosy! And I‘m in awe of your sewing/typing skills!

My niece also says thank you - she‘s currently raving about the duck in the truck (who got stuck in the muck) and Pete the Cat, both of which I discovered on my #BBRC jouney last year. (Also, it‘s SO much fun - thank you!)

rockpools As an aside, if anyone knows of any great kids books involving marigolds or coriander, we‘re on the look-out… 3y
LibrarianRyan That made it fast! I couldn't resist sending a Dr. Who print to a Brit. I don't know about Marigolds, but Kevin Henkes writes wonderful books and Chrysanthemum is one of his most popular. 3y
rockpools @LibrarianRyan 😂😂 It‘s great! 🤖 I‘ll have to take photos next time I get to Cardiff - you can see it in it‘s spiritual home! And thanks for the Chysanthemum rec - that might just work. 🌼 3y

Hestapleton @LibrarianRyan do you have an Etsy shop? 😍 3y
LibrarianRyan @Hestapleton Yep. I do not have a bunch in it right now, but I am getting ready to load a bunch more. I had to order more snaps and I am awaiting them.

Pickpick

4 days a week I do a reading zoom with kindergarten. Some days are a blast and others I want to pull my hair out. I grabbed this at the last second and was surprised to find out that it's religious. Goodreads has a subtitle: God's recipe for doing your best. I may not have learned my lesson. I know I'm supposed to preread a book, but even I (an atheist) think that it's okay to subject children to a protestant point of view. ⬇️ #readoutloud

mandarchy No parent calls yet. They usually call during my fairy tale unit. Hansel and Gretel not recommended in kindergarten... 4y

This was one of my favorite books as a kid and one that my mom would read to me all the time. This MF book would be great for DR. The story follows a little girl named Julie Ann who keeps getting jumped on by a mud puddle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fECGEJAouK8 this is a very cute reading by the author filled with all kinds of sounds and such an enthusiastic personality. #ucflae3414sp21

Nrossi UDL 2.5 (illustrate through multiple media) and EL 17 (provide contextual support through audio visuals, models, demonstrations, realia, body language and facial expressions) 4y
DrSpalding This author is very entertaining. Your web resource would work nicely with an author study as well. 4y

from “Music” by Ralph Waldo Emerson

‘Tis not in the high stars alone,
Nor in the cup of budding flowers,
Nor in the redbreast‘s mellow tones,
Nor in the bow that smiles in showers,
But in the #mud and scum of things
There alway, alway, something sings.
