Yesterday, I did the #shoplocal thing and walked to Skylight Books. I picked this up and a really tall man behind me said, “That‘s my book!” It was Ezra C. Daniels doing in-store book recommendations as part of #IndiesFirst. He seemed genuinely happy to be there. What a sweetie. And yes, I did buy one of his recommendations...

Frodo and I are getting ready to read our first ever #AgathaChristie novel! This one was recommended by a Vintage Books (Vancouver, WA) bookseller when I asked for British/London reads. I'm trying to bulk up on British-isms, history, and culture before our trip to London in March. Recommendations welcome!

Today's #bookhaul is brought to you courtesy of Ada's Technical Books, an independent bookstore in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle. I met up at their cafe with a former coworker, Elizabeth, for some catch-up time, yummy food, & (for me, at least) shopping. It was my first time there, & it was a beautiful space. (The jewelry is a gift for my sister-in-law, while the hoodie (under) & book are presents for me. )#indiesfirst #shoplocal

The literary world lost a good one this week. Brian Doyle is a beloved author here in the Pacific Northwest. He will be missed. Last Wednesday, in honor of his life and contributions, indie bookstore Broadway Books generously donated 20% of that day's sales to his family to help pay off the mortgage on their house. Had a lovely time at Village Books in Bellingham, Washington, today as my parents explored the town. Been meaning to read Dear Committee Members for a while now, and this seemed as good a time as any to pick up a copy.

Got a chance today to explore the MSP Airport branch of Minneapolis indie bookstore Open Book! I met fellow V. E. Schwab enthusiast Emily, who talked me into buying Vicious (which I didn't yet own). We chatted about books and book people (she knows UBS & has two-degrees of separation from my coworker Duane). I do love a good bookstore adventure!

We were fortunate to have an event with the talented Javaka Steptoe who, consequently, just won the Caldecott medal! His wonderful book "Radiant Child" is vibrant, inspiring, & contemplative, and I'm looking forward to sharing it with future family.
