Friday Night Movie 🎥 🍿: Rob Zombie‘s “31”. I am usually not a fan of his films, but this one was pretty good. Terrifying, gore-filled, and takes place on Halloween Night? The perfect slasher thriller murder horror film for #TeamSlaughter 🔪⛓🔨#31 #robzombie #halloweenhorror #scarathlon

I don't know why I kept this book on the TBR shelf for so long. 💛 it! It's unique characters..Gaiman's creation of villains..so rich in imagination. #readathon #scaretober #halloweenhorror

Another excellent read for #scaretober #halloweenhorror ! The entire book was great, but the chapter on Richmond, VA was the best, IMO. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

NatalieR I just bought this at Jo-Beth tonight! 😀👻 8y

The genius of Shirley Jackson lies in her writing..her ability to weave a dark, chilling tale in an understated and subdued way. No manifestation of any kind in this book, yet it's disturbing and the ending..the effect sort of lingers in your mind because we now know the dark depths of human mind. My first book from this author and won't be my last. We Have Always Lived In The Castle is on my TBR shelf. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #scaretober #halloweenhorror

the_hibernator I loved this book when I was a teen. And her short stories! 8y
Zakia In places, a terrifying book... I really wish this kind of place existed. 8y

Well-researched, technically well-written, but the suspense suffers greatly with all the meandering (771 pages isn't unheard of, but there isn't quite enough plot to fill them). It's all a bit joyless and nasty, and London is apparently crammed full of jerks.
However, there is a man with no eyelids, if that waves your flag at all.

Adding a little #witchlit to my #scaretober #frightfest #HalloweenHorror list! (Although so far it seems more like cozy witchiness than scary witchiness.)

I've read (or am reading) about headless horseman, vampires, zombies, monsters, and London Below. Now witches. What have I missed?? 🎃🎃👻👻😈😈🕸🕸

Hornsby78 WEREWOLVES!!! 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Hornsby78 Of COURSE! Plus I also thought of ghosts and demons. Any favorite werewolf books? 8y
jpmcwisemorgan Gail Carriger's books have werewolves and vampires, among other things. They are paranormal steampunk romance with a dash of intrigue. If you're interested start with The Parasol Protectorate series. 8y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @jpmcwisemorgan I definitely have her books on my TBR. Thanks! 8y
Imagineannie I love her books. No tricks, only treats (especially cookies) but such fun! 8y
Hornsby78 Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson series also has werewolves. They are fun reads if you've never read her before. 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Hornsby78 I've read the first few of those. Then I got distracted ... LOL 8y

Rosemary's Baby | Ira Levin

Creepy & disturbing, this book kept me on the edge of my seat. The horror felt by Rosemary-isolation from her friends & betrayal by those around her is what's scary about the novel. Not the witchcraft, nor the devil reference. Now I want to watch the movie, starring the fabulous Mia Farrow. This is a quick read, can double up for #booktober #quickreads. @RealLifeReading #halloweenhorror #scaretober

jpmcwisemorgan That's a fantastic cover! 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Great choice! 8y
