*This song by Kansas made me thing think of the struggle David Sheff and his son, Nic, went through with Nic‘s problems with addiction. The tagged book was made into a movie, starring Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet. Four more books were written by father and son which deal with the same or similar topics. Nic was definitely a wayward son, but he managed to go home again in the end.

A man that has lost everything to this including his whole world & everyone he knew & then must relearn to be with others when his ka-tet arrives. I see him as a Sean Penn type figure, wrinkled clothes,dusty boots & hat with a heavy gun belt & wearing his suffering on his face. Carry on wayward son.

Lizpixie @Cinfhen yes! Can‘t you see the wind blowing dust, the squint in his eyes, the creak of his gun belt? @gradcat not at all. I first read this at 15 & Stephen Kings description of Roland is more like what I‘ve seen in my mind for over 30yrs. 6y

gradcat I didn‘t see the movie with Elba & McConaughey, so I personally can‘t say whether they did a good job, but the movie did not do very well.... 6y

writerlibrarian Massive but so so so good. It's also well designed chapters and parts wise. Took me about 3 weeks on and off. I loved it. It didn't feel massive at all. 6y
