Happy #tob2025 longlist week! I've not read a ton of them (no surprise given my comfort genres); what I have read is primarily thanks to litsy suggestions (😘 #camplitsy24). Not much that was a surprise tho -lots of repeat authors?- and James in particular seems like an obvious choice. But it was fantastic so... 🤷🏻‍♀️
My list by enjoyment in the reading is above fwiw! Highlighting the tagged bc James gets plenty love wo my help 😜

Ruthiella I also noticed the repeat authors! But still there is always quite a few from the longlist that are completely off my radar. 1mo
Bookwormjillk I was thinking the same about James. 1mo
Larkken @Ruthiella true! It is usually my primary source for finding new fav authors outside my comfort zone, too! You're right ill have to give some love to the unread books on the list next 🤦‍♀️ 1mo
BkClubCare As bewildering as Irena Rey is - I am actually moving quite well through it. Compared to some books that I know are awesome but I can‘t seem to make any progress? So weird. I am weird. 1mo
Larkken @BkClubCare that's awesome! I keep reading reviews that make me feel like maybe I hit it at a bad mental state. It seems so weird and right up my alley that I can't believe from the blurbs that it didn't hit. Maybe I'll have to pick it back up! 1mo

Cory is 18 and has no plans after the Summer Camp where she has been working, draws to an end. When she meets Rolo, a rich pharmaceutical CEO and father of a child she has been looking after, offers her a job as a nanny, she can‘t resist his wicked charm and the money. He takes her to his private island, where all seems to good to be true. And of course it is.
A compelling novel about what it means to finally be seen.

? Antwerp, Belgium

squirrelbrain I wish this had made the ToB list - I will still listen to it but not for some time now…. 🤣 1mo
BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain I am surprised it didn‘t. Same goes for many of our #CampLitsy24 choices. And for The Echoes and I Who Have Never Known Men. 1mo

These are the ones that are on the #ToB25 longlist that I‘ve read. Some are this year‘s favorites. In my next post I‘ll share the ones I have on my shelves and that are now calling out to me to read them before the shortlist will be announced

Chelsea.Poole I‘m interested in several here that I have yet to read. Especially Safekeep, Book Censor and 1mo
Ruthiella Glad we were on target this summer with 1mo
BarbaraBB @Chelsea.Poole All three are good! (edited) 1mo

BarbaraBB @Ruthiella Yes! It is surprising though that our other #CampLitsy24 books are not longlisted! 1mo
Suet624 Do you have a favorite on this list? 1mo
sarahbarnes You‘ve done well! 1mo
Megabooks Several I haven‘t read! I‘ll have to go back and look at your reviews. I love that cover on Hard Girls. 1mo
BarbaraBB @Megabooks But I do think you‘ll have read so many more books on the longlist! 1mo
BarbaraBB @Suet624 Not really. Except for The Safekeep, My Friends and All Fours I now realize none of them were real favorites, despite what I wrote in this post 🤦🏻‍♀️. I do have high hopes for the ones I still want to read 😀 (edited) 1mo
Megabooks I did make my list. Maybe you missed the tag? I‘ve read 27!! 👍🏻👍🏻 1mo
Megabooks @Ruthiella And James! 1mo
BarbaraBB @Megabooks On my way to your thread! 1mo

#TOBwaiting

In a recent post of @BkClubCare we‘ve been guessing about the ToB longlist, which will be published sometime in November. I thought why not make the most of our anticipation and share the six books we hope to see on that longlist?

It‘ll definitely give us some inspiration for books to check out - whether they make the longlist or not.

These are mine, I hope you‘ll share yours!

(Tagging the #CampLitsy24 participants for a start)

Ruthiella Thanks for the tag! I‘ll take a crack at it! 🎶 It‘s the most wonderful time of the year 🎵 Rooster time! 🐓 2mo
Bookwormjillk I don‘t even know where to start, but I‘ll give it a try! 2mo
Hooked_on_books I like this idea, but like the others, I‘ll have to think about this a bit. I notice 5 of your books seem to have a color scheme theme. 2mo
Bookwormjillk What are the guidelines for the tournament? Is it anything published in 2024? 2mo
CatLass007 Thanks for the tag. What does #ToB stand for? Several of these books are on my wish list. 2mo
cariashley Yay, I‘ve been waiting for TOB news! I‘m hoping to get back into it this time after not being able to do it last time (life…). Will have to think about this! 2mo
Suet624 I rely solely on other Litsy recommendations and you all have never steered me wrong. 2mo
BarbaraBB @Bookwormjillk Yes! Just books published in 2024. All choices are arbitrary as they say themselves! 2mo
Bookwormjillk @BarbaraBB thanks! I wasn‘t sure if they removed the books from Camp TOB but couldn‘t find anything on their website. I‘ll have to go back to my #CampLitsy lists to see what I missed. 2mo
BarbaraBB @cariashley I hope you‘ll be there again, we‘ve missed you! 2mo
AmyG Thanks for the tag! I need to think about this. 2mo
Susanita I‘ll have to think about it too… 2mo
squirrelbrain Exciting! I‘ll post mine later (or tomorrow…. Or the weekend!) ❤️ 2mo
Cathythoughts These all look good. I must investigate 👍🏻♥️ 2mo
Larkken Ooh, fun! I‘ll have a snoop… 2mo
sarahbarnes Fun list and fun idea! 😃 Mina‘s Matchbox is definitely on my list of books I‘m excited to read. I tried reading If Only recently and couldn‘t get into it, but I think it was just me at the time because I loved her other book. 2mo
BarbaraBB @sarahbarnes Wow, you did try If Only already! I just discovered its existence 🤩. But I loved her other book too so I have high hopes. I hope it just wasn‘t the moment to start it for you 🤞🏽 2mo
sarahbarnes Honestly I think I had a book hangover from Intermezzo when I tried to start it. I‘ll likely try again. 2mo
Deblovestoread Thanks for the tag! Will give it some thought! 💜 2mo
CatLass007 Thank you for the link! 2mo
Meshell1313 Ooh fun! I think James for sure will make the cut! 2mo
Chelsea.Poole Very exciting! This will be fun! 2mo

dabbe Thanks for the inspiration! 🤩😀🤗 2mo
Caroline2 Ohhh exciting!! 😃 2mo
BkClubCare Oh MY!! 👏😆🎉 2mo
CarolynM All the books on the ToB list are usually new to me. I‘ll have a look at these that you have chosen🙂 2mo
Megabooks Liars made me so angry!! I think you‘re right on target with Fruit, and I enjoyed it. I checked out Mina‘s again today. Hopefully I‘ll get to it this time!! 2mo

#WeeklyForecast 40/24

I just started a book from Percival Everett‘s backlist and it has drawn me in immediately, as usual.
Next will be either the tagged one, from the NBA longlist, or Irena Rey, which I have been interested in ever since it was longlisted for #CampLitsy24.

Ruthiella I admire your focus when reading a favorite author‘s backlist. 😃 3mo
squirrelbrain I keep considering reading Irena Rey, then getting sidetracked…. 🤷‍♀️ 3mo
BarbaraBB @Ruthiella I am always so happy to find a new author I love lol! 3mo
BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain Yes me too! Hopefully this week! 3mo

Pickpick

I think a lot of people are going to dislike this book. I didnt entirely like it - BUT i keep thinking about it. It‘s an “idea” book, rather than driven by plot or character development. Three Chinese American girls meet in their early teens. Each one is very driven by a passion which will steer their lives - art, technology, activism. I think many readers will want to get into their heads & emotions but this is more about their achievements ⬇️

Centique their impact. As the 1990s roll through we look at their lives, their accomplishments, during the growth of consumerism and corporate greed - then a violent jump 50 years ahead and into a dystopian reality that is never fully explained. Messy but in parts its brilliant and thought provoking. If im still thinking about this book at the end of the year then ill need to up my GR rating! 3mo
squirrelbrain Great review! I‘ve picked this up at the library a couple of times but never borrowed it but your comments make it sound intriguing…. 3mo
Ruthiella Your description ot the book makes me think of this book read for #CampLitsy24 where early sister seemed more to represent a way of living than be a real person (edited) 3mo
Centique @squirrelbrain i‘m going to be so interested to read other peoples reviews! On GR there has been some negativity but it may be because its so different to The Leavers. 3mo
Centique @Ruthiella the blurb for that really does sound similar! I might try it just to compare. 3mo

I feel good about my August reading. I managed 17 books (including one story & one children‘s book) & made it partially through two more. A mix of genres & lots of series books. Favorites were The Forty Elephants for #SundayBuddyRead & Incidents Around the House, 😱 Hello Stranger & The Undermining of Twyla & Frank. Bear for #CampLitsy24 & Unwell Women for #SheSaid & Black Sheep were also of note. I managed all three of my #Roll100 books too.🎉📚
