Pickpick

2 things first. 1. I‘d be very interested to see what a novel by her looks like. 2. Reading Dear Cyborgs prepared me for this collection of short stories that through this heaping pile of phantasmagoria dealt with so many issues women face. I would really like to have a beer with her and stay silent while she talked about whatever she wanted. I also feel like I have dirt underneath my nails from reading this. Just read it. It‘s a pick!!!

TrishB I‘m not really into short stories - but you have me intrigued! 7y
Reggie @TrishB I was surprised because I had no idea these had the elements of, horror is not the right word, maybe more a “something is not quite right”-ness about them, but I think you would like them, and would get them. 7y
Bambolina_81 I had this down as a collection of essays, I'm not sure what 🤔 Adding to my stack now. Thanks for the rec! 7y

Reggie @Bambolina_81 you welcome! I‘m cagey to talk about this book. I think there would be some very colorful conversations about some of these stories in a book club. 7y
RohitSawant Great review! I have this queued on Kindle! Looking forward to reading it soon. 7y
Bambolina_81 @Reggie I am mega intrigued now 😂 7y
Reggie @rohit-sawant Thanks!!! I think you‘d like her. In writer-town, you and her live on the same block. 7y
Cinfhen I was gifted this gritty collection by my bff @shawnmooney I'm really looking forward to reading it, even though the #bookManiac bailed!!! 7y
shawnmooney @cinfhen Ha! I actually did not bail, just didn‘t care for it all that much – I did bail on the looong story based on the police procedural but otherwise read the rest of the book. I‘m so glad you enjoyed it! (edited) 7y
bookwrm526 @Reggie we read it for my book club. There was one person there who didn‘t like it, and most of the conversation was her trying to get us to tell her why we did like it. There was quite a bit of dislike for the SVU story (it had one defender) and we were all thoroughly confused by Mothers. Eight Bites destroyed me 7y
gibblr This post and thread has definitely convinced me to add to my tbr list! 7y
erzascarletbookgasm What an intriguing review! 7y
starrdom I consumed this one via audiobook and I think that was a mistake as it is a brutal way to experience the SVU story. Carmen Machado is going to be at a book event I'm attending today. I'll get the print version there and try again. 7y
Reggie @Cinfhen I think there‘s a bit of Fever Dreaminess to it so be prepared, but I think you‘ll like it. 7y
Reggie @bookwrm526 It sounds like I would loved to have been there. This was my take on Mother‘s. I think when we first meet people we are attracted to we imagine what our lives would be with them. In this case, the reality didn‘t get that far because Bad the gf was physically abusive. But had they stayed together they would have had 2 kids.(?) that was my take. Lol Yeah and as a person who has fluctuated all his life with weight, 8 Bites was rough. 7y
Reggie @gibblr I think you and the ladies would have a great time at the PR bookshop discussing it. 7y
Reggie @starrdom OMG you‘re so lucky!!! Yeah I think this one is done better in print because in the SVU there are these two other characters that pop up that made me do a double take. And there was a lot of back and forthing going on. I can only imagine a lot of peoples “wtf is going on?!!!” Lolol 7y
starrdom @Reggie yeah Abler and Stabler still haunt me lol 7y
Cinfhen Thanks Reggie!! I can always consult with you if I'm really lost!!! 7y
bookwrm526 @Reggie That‘s an interesting take, I‘ll be sure to share it with my book group when we meet again. It is just as plausible as anything we came up with lol 7y
UrsulaMonarch Nice discussion of the book here! I still don't get/appreciate SVU... 7y
Reggie @Lkelly sometimes we have to make that leap and just go with it. I think the SVU story, part of it, the doppelgänger part at least is how we want everything to be and turn out, perfect. They solved all the cases. Abler and Henson were sleeping with each other and in love. But still Abler had a wonderful wife and wonderful kids. Henson was with the ADA. But maybe like the ADA, we all know that something too good to be true probably is. We need the 7y
Reggie Flaws and the struggle and to be haunted and to have all these things that make us real people. And sometimes it‘s hard and not nice and it‘s violent. Idk, maybe I‘m talking nonsense but that‘s what I got from that story. 7y

These 4 #chunksters have been #onyourShelfAllYear Im not sure if I'll ever get to them #pagecountphobia although my favorite #bookManiac has been singing the praises of Year of The Runaway which would fill a #Booked2018 prompt #RefugeeMC #JingleShelves

emilyhaldi I picked up Barkskins recently bc it was super cheap but it's definitely intimidating 😬 7y
Marchpane I'm scared of chunksters too, I think it's because I'm bad at bailing (need some coaching from that #bookmaniac 😉) 7y
Pamwurtzler Even reading the ebooks, I‘ve been looking at the dots that indicate the length. 😀 7y

DreesReads Barkskins is really really good though! 7y
susanw I have those same four on my shelf too. I even put Sport of Kings on my tbr bingo card, but still it sits unread. 7y
Cinfhen We could all take a page from that #bookmaniac @Marchpane I'm glad to hear it's good @AudreyMorris maybe we'll do a mini buddyread @emilyhaldi 👍🏻😜 (edited) 7y
Cinfhen Oh, you should join us @susanw if we do a buddyread 7y
Reviewsbylola I keep thinking I should buy Barkskins but I know I will never read it! 7y
Cinfhen @Pamwurtzler that's probably one of the best things about a chunky Ebook, never quite sure just how thick it is!! 7y
Cinfhen I'm thinking I may read Sport of Kings for #Booked2018 #featuringanOlympicSport @susanw 7y
Tamra I have Barkskins and I‘ve been delaying gratification for quite awhile. I seem to do that with authors I really like because I don‘t want the thrill to end. 😜 Not very rational. 7y
Cinfhen @tamra you should join too if we all read the book together it'll be fun!!! 7y
Tamra @Cinfhen yes, I would love to! Please tag me if it happens. Otherwise I was thinking about it for Xmas break between semesters. 7y
Cinfhen Will keep you in the loop @Tamra but I probably won't get to this chunkster until mid year #procrastinator 7y
Tamra @Cinfhen 👍🏾 7y
MallenNC I so relate to page count phobia! 7y
Cinfhen Oh, it's definitely real @MallenNC @erzascarletbookgasm 😝 7y
bedandabook Oh, The Sport of Kings and Year of the Runaway are both wonderful. I love big books you can get lost in! 7y
Cinfhen I used to only read big juicy epics but as ive gotten older i find a have a shorter attention span @bedandabook 7y
susanw @Cinfhen a buddy read is good incentive as are fulfilling specific challenge requirements. 7y
TrishB I‘ve run away......I really didn‘t like Barkskins....and I love big books. Obviously in the minority though! 7y
minkyb I have Christadora and really want to get to it. 7y
