I read this one for #booked2023 #anypartofatrilogy. I had actually already read the middle book - The Postscript Murders- and I didn‘t find this one as enjoyable to read but it is written by an author who lives on my village about my local area so I did enjoy the familiarity of the surroundings.

I read 5 books for #booked2023 during the second quarter of the year. My Calamity Jane was alright, but my least favorite of the bunch.

Lakshmi is on verge of achieving her dream of owning her own home when the husband she fled years ago arrives with the sister she didn‘t know existed. Caring for her sister causes great changes to her life, the repercussions of which may undermine years of careful work. Lots of mixed reviews for this one but I really enjoyed it and felt for Lakshmi as she tried so hard to do the best she could for everyone.

I've been meaning to get to this, so #anypartofatrilogy #booked2023 was a perfect opportunity. Wonderful writing in which a writer travels to Greece + spends the novel simply listening to other people's life stories. These are tales of the frustration of family life and are woven like a spiders web, so that you are hypnotised by the tales as is the narrator. I definitely plan to read more of this series@Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @alisiakae

I agree with some that this was more of a character study novel, and had less of a sense of the Australian Outback, but it‘s still my favourite Harper novel so far.

I loved meeting all of the characters, they were all so evenly drawn that I didn‘t guess the outcome until it actually happened; both the main storyline and the sub-plot.

This was going to be my pick for #Booked2023 #AnyPartofATrilogy because when I read Scythe years ago it was a true trilogy, but I went to request book 3 from the library last night I noticed that a book of short stories had been written about this world after book 3 which inexplicably seems to be labeled book 3.5. Do people think this still works for the prompt since it‘s not part of the novel arc, or should I pick something else?

I meant to read this in 2022 as my pick for non-patriarchal society, but ran out of time. I‘m so pleased I didn‘t set it aside, because I loved this!

It‘s also really hard to summarize. The planet is still fighting a centuries-long war. Nyx, formerly a queen‘s assassin, is a bounty hunter who will take any job. She has a team of mercenaries.⬇️

LaRose is the name of the 5 year old son of the Ojibwe couple, Landreaux and Emmaline. LaRose is a family name passed down through generations. This is the first time that its bearer is male. A tragic accident causes LaRose to be given to another family. Louise Erdrich is a skilled writer.At times so beautiful and often just as ugly. If you enjoy Bernard Cornwell‘s battle scenes, then you‘re set up to enjoy this one. Blood and any other bodily fluids graphically described. Complaints about too much swearing in some reviews, needless to say I didn‘t notice. A bit confused about the drug use. What was available then?
I shall be reading the rest of the trilogy definitely.

I‘m feeling tender after finishing the Beartown trilogy with The Winners.

Backman has a way of telling you what‘s going to happen, then breaking your heart anyway when it does. His books hit my emotions like no other author.

I loved this.
