Finishing Pandora‘s Jar gave me the last prompt I needed for #52Books23 - #writtenbyacomedian - which I didn‘t know until I‘d already started it. So, hooray! I don‘t plan to do it again, but I‘m glad I did it this year. I tried a lot of new things and while I didn‘t like all of it (some of it confirmed genres I just don‘t like) it was good to stretch boundaries a bit.

It‘s not a bad book. It‘s a bad fit for me. I don‘t often like mysteries, so it was already a bad start. It was fine until all the narrative winks and nudges started, which threw me and then irritated me. I had most of the twists pegged early, then couldn‘t figure why it was supposed to be surprising. I really disliked the (lack of) resolution to both stories and it frustrated me greatly. Sorry, French fans, but I just didn‘t like it.

Meh. The structure of this…biography didn‘t do much for me, but I learned something about Butler‘s childhood…so 🤷🏻‍♀️ At least it was short.

Very good, but not the least bit enjoyable to read, IMO. Which, to be fair, is mostly how I feel about dystopian fiction in general - the present is terrifying enough, I don‘t like to imagine this very possible future! The first 90% is bleak, but some hope shows up toward the end. I don‘t think I could read the sequel. #52books23 #dystopian
