pickBinti is the first of her people to be accepted to university. Because the Himba never leave home it is assumed that she won‘t go but Binti has big dreams. Leaving her family behind to journey through space should be the part of her voyage that takes the most courage but there are more tests in store for her. This was so short but the world building was great and I liked Binti a lot. Already have the sequel ready to go on audio. #authoramonth
Despite my husband‘s many efforts to win me over to it, I‘ve never been a sci-fi/fantasy fan. Is this good sci fi? Is it groundbreaking sci fi? Is it merely meh? Who am I to judge? I won‘t, because I don‘t want to skew the ratings for those who do know this genre. I‘ll just say I‘m glad that #AuthorAMonth forces me to read outside my usual comfort zone. And that this was short. 🙂

pickBinti does a lot of set up for a series that will be really engaging & entertaining. The writing is fantastic & flows naturally. I really loved the cultural exploration There is a lot of discussion about acceptance. Binti is a fantastically strong female protagonist, but still shows appropriate weaknesses/flaws for her age. I think that this approach will serve her well in the continuing novellas. I look forward to seeing where this plot goes.

pickA good follow up after a serious/hard book.
Binti is a Himba woman who dares to leave for her dream and runs into some unexpected space trouble.
The depth of feeling I have for Binti so quickly into her story speaks so well of the writing. There are so many cool little details. I want to know more about humans in this time! Looking forward to reading the next one. I want to see Binti‘s future.

There was a lot packed into this little novella--space travel, aliens, interstellar diplomacy, race relations, and an appreciation for fractals. The characterization was impressive for such a short book and I loved the idea of jellyfish aliens.

I‘m working on a Reader‘s Advisory assignment based on this book and I swear my TBR has grown by at least 50 books 😂 I haven‘t read it yet but I have the whole trilogy waiting for me on my Kobo!

I would have liked a glossary for some of the words.I also loved the idea of a specific plat having family meaning.

panI consider myself an all genre reader. Not much trips me up but Binti did just that. I tried audio first but couldn't understand the narrator (not her fault, dialects can be tricky, when listeners are HOH). So I got the physical book but struggled pronouncing words as I read them. Not wanting to give up, I ended up pairing the two- listening with the book in front of me. Anyway, it worked and helped a lot. I won't be continuing with the series. 2☆
