Fossey is complicated but endlessly fascinating. I greatly enjoyed this memoir about her life amongst the mountain gorillas. It is exciting and beautiful but oh so heartbreaking.
So mom and I were talking tonight at dinner, and this came up! She says she told me when I was a kid, but I have no memory of it.
My mom caught polio in 1952 and spent much of the 50s in and out of Kosair. She said Dian had taken her first trip to Africa and left within a year of their meeting to go back.

Loved this one! 💚 It's been on my TBR for years and in my #BookSpin list for a few months. I'm so glad I read it finally. The scientist in me loved seeing how data was collected and analyzed. The animal lover in me enjoyed seeing the relationships Fossey formed with these animals. Parts made me angry, parts made me cry, but overall, it's a wonderful read and very informative.
I'm getting it in at the very last minute, but here's my list for September. #BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
https://bit.ly/LiveAnimalCams A fantastic link to all of you animal lovers, when ever you need to take a break from reading (and when you‘re avoiding the news).
Dian Fossey‘s memoir tells of her 13 years studying gorillas in the #MistyMountains of Virunga.

Meet my new reading companion! I just adopted two gorillas. Thank you, Dian Fossey, for everything you did for the gorillas! Lucky for the world your foundation is keeping up the good work! Absolutely loved the tagged book! 🦍❤️
My last read of the year, number 172! It is definitely one of the best books this year, as well as one of the best books ever. Took me years to be able to read it. Some scenes from the movie over 20 years ago still haunt me. I only cried twice though. When I read Woman in the Mist I cried throughout the book.
This woman's story has everything that makes me fangirl over the natural world. Adventure, intrigue, true crime, natural beauty, the best and worst in people depicted in one instant, and heartbreak. And all of it is true and rends at your feelings. Her account should be required reading so we know what kind of an influence we have in the world....
I‘ll raise my glass in your honor, Dian! Oh how I admire her strength and dedication. When I read Woman in the Mists I cried and cried. Had to stop reading it in public places. Loved the book!
So... This happened... Luckily I know you‘ll understand. I was just checking out my TBR list. And the I happened to stumble upon a bargain bin when looking for old books I really want to read, but I haven‘t been able to find in any bookstores. Bought seven.
