Happy World Poetry Day!
Not last Friday but the Friday before I got to go op shopping. It‘s the perfect way for me to sink into the weekend. I live for weekends! I was obsessed with Maya as a teenager but didn‘t rate I Know Why the Caged Bid Sings but I‘m into her poetry now as the kids are studying it at school. I‘ve been wearing a lot of these no sleeve jumpers as winter in Australia was scarily mild this year. I loved it but it doesn‘t bode well for bush fire season.

I always love collected works because they let you see what subjects a poet returned to again and again through their lifetime. Maya Angelou‘s work is special because no matter what she‘s writing about her tone is tough as iron, but still fresh and hopeful. #AuthorAMonth @Soubhiville

I was first introduced to Maya Angelou's poetry in high school but I've only read a few poems over the years.
This complete collection was amazing. Her versatility as an author is very evident in her poetry because she writes about a wide range of topics and her word choice and rhythm create a harmonious song full of truth, hope, and heart.
I'm so glad I picked this collection to read for this challenge. 💚
I had no idea that the famous Joni Mitchell song was inspired by this poem. I love finding connections like that!
I love that no matter how many times I read Maya Angelou's poems, something resonates with me.

Just found this quote and I love it 😂

A ‘sensory‘ poem.
In this poem, Maya Angelou is not interested in the healthy, nutritional food offered by the diner. Instead she fancied some meat.
Well, got these goodies from my library today. Cannot wait to dig in

I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.

Recently, I've been mourning the loss of an amazing girl I used to know. It's been 8 years or so since I last saw her, and she was only 16 when she killed herself. Such a beautiful, musical, and rambunctious soul. My grief reminded me that working with kids gives me the chance to make a difference in someone's life. It also made me realize how much, even as an introvert, I crave connection with others. And now I'm back on Litsy. I missed you all.
