The illustrations in this goofy little chapter book are wonderful! The feel of this book is pretty old, but that's because itsy an old book. I still thought it was fun, and had enough silly animal antics and trickery to entertain kids today. #ChapterBook

Since my Goodreads challenge is so big this year, I thought I'd start the year off with a small read 🦁 I really loved this story! So much heart along with all the silliness 💚

This is also one of my picks for the Illustrated prompt for @lauredhel 's #fourfoursin21 challenge 😊

wordslinger42 @Lauredhel I should ask! Can we do multiple books for each prompt or just one? 😊 4y
BookNAround I love this book. I read it to my kids when they were young and they spent days drawing their own magical islands afterwards. 4y
wordslinger42 @BookNAround What a fun memory for them! 😊💜 4y

I might be crazy... or admirably ambitious 😅😅

But I haven't done a Goodreads challenge for awhile, and this seems to be the year of reading challenges for me 📚📚📚

ju.ca.no Good luck🍀👌🏼 4y

Lily stopped wanting to read this about halfway through, which usually happens when we make so little progress! I decided to finish anyway and found it quaintly adorable. It reminds me a lot of Alice‘s Adventures in Wonderland in that it contains a lot of nonsensical happenings. It‘s fun to read about distracting a talking lion by braiding his mane, but unlikely. Very simple, very fantastical and very nonsensical are how I‘d describe this one.

Our local elementary just started their big fundraiser. It‘s the third year doing a read-a-thon!

The kids log their reading time and people can either donate a lump sum or per page read. It‘s a lego theme, so the kids get prizes based on that. Genevieve was so excited that we read five books and one chapter from My Father‘s Dragon.

Pamwurtzler What fun!! 6y
BookNAround Loved My Father‘s Dragon. My kids spent the rest of the summer drawing maps of their own islands the summer that we read it (probably ten plus years ago now). 6y

Tamra Great idea! Instead our school has us buy crap we don‘t want or shouldn‘t eat. 6y
Reggie @Tamra gotta love those$1 milk, almond, or dark chocolate bars. Lol 6y
Reviewsbylola That was the consensus. They‘ve sold expensive wrapping paper for years (at least since I was in elementary school 25 years ago!) and they were sick of peddling crap people didn‘t want. @tamra @Reggie 6y

First chapter book (for readalong purposes.) When I googled best chapter books to read to kindergarteners, one blog said this should be the first chapter book choice. That was enough for me. 😂

We‘d love some recommendations! I have Roald Dahl on my list.

britt_brooke The first chapter book we read aloud was Captain Underpants. 😆 We need to get into to more chapter books, though. I‘m taking notes from this post! 6y
LeahBergen We should all do a “topless pose with a book” day here on Litsy. 😂😂😂😂😂 6y

minkyb Oh this brings back memories. My daughter‘s loved these. Does the Chinaberry catalog still exist? They had wonderful book selections. 6y
minkyb My children are quite a bit older but I remember Cam Jansen and Junie B. Jonas and Magic Treehouse. 6y

So quirky and weird in a fun way. I‘m not sure how I missed this as a kid, but I did; I still thoroughly enjoyed as an adult. It has adventure and humor and bravery and fantasy. Lots of fun, and a great beginning chapter book for kids. Engaging without being overwhelming.

By: Ruth Stiles Gannet- Science Fiction
Award: Newbery Honor Book
Wonderful independent read for students. This book shares a story about a boys father who runs away to rescue a baby dragon. During this journey, the boys once young father comes across many other characters- the boars, monkeys, lion, gorilla, and a few more! This book can certainly be a choice for a LC group in the classroom. Students may also participate in RT, SR, PR, GR!

AshleyC A UDL Strategy to exhibit with this book is 2.3- Support decoding of text, mathematical notation, and symbols. Also, an important EL Strategy to support your students is 12- teach two objectives; language and content 7y

My next three books for the #throwbackreadathon. I first read these for school in second grade and loved them so much that I had to buy them at the book fair

monalyisha I‘ve loved these covers since I first saw them at my first bookstore job. Don‘t know how I missed them as a kid, but I did! Enjoy! 7y
Clwojick Oooh. These are some beautiful covers 😍 7y
Clwojick I don‘t think I‘ve ever heard of the stories though. But so so pretty 7y

I've read this out loud to my son and he loved it. He really loves stories with talking animals with them. As for me, I think I'm a bit too old for this book. It was an easy read and very imaginative. I do want to learn what will happen to Elmer and to his dragon on the next book.

I picked this up when I was home recently. It had been a rough week and only got rougher. But when I read this book I started to feel better. One of the first "chapter books" I remember being read out loud, I started to hear again the cadence of my mother's voice. The warmth of her words in my head and those on the page had wonderful restorative properties.

I'm not much of a fantasy person so these are about my speed. The kids and I loved them when the kids were young. Not pictured: Elmer and the Dragon, which is around here somewhere but I can't find it. #herebedragons #photoadaynov16
