From the New York Times bestselling author, J.C. Cervantes, THE ENCHANTED HACIENDA introduces us to the magical Estrada family The warmth and humor of The Enchanted Hacienda immediately cast a spell over me. Katy Hays, New York Times bestselling author of The Cloisters When Harlow Estrada is abruptly fired from her dream job and her boyfriend proves to be a jerk, her world turns upside down. She flees New York City to the one place she can always call homethe enchanted Hacienda Estrada. The Estrada family farm in Mexico houses an abundance of charmed flowers cultivated by Harlows mother, sisters, aunt, and cousins. By harnessing the magic in these flowers, they can heal hearts, erase memories, interpret dreamsbut not Harlow. So when her mother and aunt give her a special task involving the familys magic, she panics. How can she rise to the occasion when she is magicless? But maybe its not magic shes missing, but belief in herself. When she finally embraces her unique gifts and opens her heart to a handsome stranger, she discovers shes far more powerful than she imagined. With unforeseen twists, romance, and a heavy sprinkle of magic, The Enchanted Hacienda is a captivating coming-of-age debut exploring identity, unconditional family love, and uncovering the magic within us all.

Eh…. Well, I finished this on audio while jigsaw puzzling but I can‘t say much great about it. It‘s mostly meh. The MC is annoying and apparently I one in this book - whether they own hotels or a flower farm - thinks twice about money. I don‘t think my book group is going to like it at all, but I hope we can find enough to discuss!

I really liked this book! I‘m glad #mytbr recommended it to me! About a magical land in Mexico that grows flowers that can be enchanted. The only thing that was super unrealistic was how many flights they took! They have a lot of money from the flower business with how many flights they kept hopping on at a drop of a hat.

Harlow‘s life is stagnating until she returns to her family‘s magic flower farm
The initial conflict w/the soon to be ex… I was team that guy, until he suddenly said something racist. She tried to bail on his important work function, was upset he wanted her to not be dressed like Faith Lahane & showed up late. How would I feel if this was genderswapped & a man showed up late & was wondering why he couldn‘t go dressed like Adam Sandler? 0 sympathy⬇️

5feet.of.fury The plot was good for a while while she was in Mexico, although someone said it was basically the premise of Encanto. I can‘t confirm. 13mo
5feet.of.fury She meets a new guy, but then ruins it and spends the rest of the book running away and crying at various times. It‘s just really… she makes such bad decisions… 13mo
5feet.of.fury So you‘re worried you manipulated the guy with magic… SO instead of telling him, you fake sick, flee the country and then manipulate him with more magic? 13mo

What a sweet story about love and flowers. If you need something sweet and easy, this is a good one for you.

I put #mytbr on hold for most of this year. I just started my membership back up because I‘ve been reading a lot of meh books. I‘m hoping some recs from Book Riot will help me out of it.

Have you read any of these books? They seem perfect for fall!

5feet.of.fury I thrifted Enchanted Hacienda but haven‘t read it yet, it‘s on my list for October! 1y

Bailedbailed

Made it to chapter 6 and had to bail. For some reason I found the main character annoying and there really are too many similarities to the movie Encanto. Just could not stay focused on this one…

My final book for June & it‘s a soft pick. I liked the premise of a magical family flower farm in Mexico & the daughter or cousin without magical powers coming back home to find herself. (It‘s been compared to Encanto which I didn‘t see so I‘m no expert.🤷🏻‍♀️ I loved the family & wanted more time with them & the flowers rather than the love interest & the angst that went along with it. (The author is a YA writer & I felt is showed a bit. The ⬇️

DebinHawaii …magical realism was about the right amount for me. It did fail the annoying repeated descriptive word test-my peeve is “smirk” (which since the definition is “to smile in an affected, smug, or offensively familiar way” doesn‘t make it too appealing) & my Kindle word count showed that 14 times an expression was described as a smirk. 😏 Ugh! Still overall, it was sweet & light & not a bad read (said without smirking!) Read during #20in4 #readathon (edited) 1y

I was supposed to start listening to Tales from the Cafe, but when I got my monthly Audible credit I felt inclined to grab this one. Felt like something magical…

emz711 Sounds similar to Encanto? 1y
jen_the_scribe @emz711 huh, it sure does. Not sure why I didn‘t piece them together lol just a few details are different. 1y

The latest in my started but likely to be set aside stack (because I‘m having to move so quickly from one to another, not because it isn‘t potentially going to be good).

Cazxxx I recently read this on NetGalley and really liked it! 1y
