Starting this one today! I'm really liking it so far.

I‘ll give this book a low pick. I enjoyed learning about Psyche and Eros, but wasn‘t my favorite myth retelling. It kind of seemed like the author was trying to show off how much Greek mythology she knew and to name all the gods. I won‘t say too much more but I mailed this out today. It should be there Saturday or Monday! #LmPBC

4/5 ⭐️ I enjoyed the second half of the book more than the first. I didn't mind that it was a traditional Greek mythology telling. Sending it out tomorrow! #LMPBC

I absolutely loved every minute of this book. I‘m not sure if it‘s because I‘ve been using a mystic tarot deck for the last 20 yrs, but all the Greek myths are familiar to me so it was a joy every time a new God or Goddess was introduced. Psyche and Eros‘s story is one of my favourite and this adaptation was brilliant being in both their voices. It‘s one of those books that you‘re disappointments that it‘s over although it had a satisfying ending.

My top book for April is Empire of the Damned but Psyche and Eros is still my top book so far 💜

Psyche and Eros has been a favorite myth of mine for quite a while. I even worked on my own retelling a few years ago, but I couldn't quite get to the bottom of the emotional truths I was trying to convey. This is a solid retelling, and I like how McNamara puts it in the context of Greek history, but while it incorporates ideas from recent retellings of other myths (Achilles, Medusa), I'm not sure it adds much of a new perspective on the story.

1. I feel like I'm on the edge of doing something cool and creative and potentially cathartic, although I don't know yet what that might be. Maybe just a butternut squash soup innovation or something related to chord progressions (like maybe learning how they work).

3. Great horned owl (in a place where they don't use poison on rodents) or a barn swallow.

I don‘t want to give much away since this is our #LMPBC #GroupM pick, but it was not what I expected. I think I expected a more modern retelling and it read more like actual mythology. Can‘t wait to see what you all think and to dive into our other picks! I will post when I mail it out soon to the next reader! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is going to be a book I will keep on my shelf! If you like Madeline Miller you're going to love this story. I was totally sucked in by page two and held captive until the end. If you're not familiar with Greek mythology, this will be a great starting point. Regardless of your understanding of mythology and God's and Goddesses this will be an entertaining read. Releases in May.

Like Madeline Miller, Natalie Haynes, and Pat Barker, this contemporary retelling of the Greek myth of the God of Love and the mortal woman and the trials and tribulations in order to prove meaning of true love is a great page turner.
