Two rival apprentice sorcerers must team up to save their teachers and protect their own magic in this lively young adult romantic adventure from the New York Times bestselling author of In Deeper Waters and So This Is Ever After. Edison Rooker isnt sure what to expect when he enters the office of Antonia Hex, the powerful sorceress who runs a call center for magical emergencies. He doesnt have much experience with hexes or curses. Heck, he doesnt even have magic. But he does have a planto regain the access to the magical world he lost when his grandmother passed. Antonia isintimidating, but she gives him a job and a new nameRookboth of which hes happy to accept. Now all Rook has to do is keep his Spell Binder, an illegal magical detection device, hidden from the Magical Consortium. And contend with Sun, the grumpy and annoyingly cute apprentice to Antonias rival colleague, Fable. But dealing with competition isnt so bad; as Sun seems to pop up more and more, Rook minds less and less. But when the Consortium gets wind of Rooks Spell Binder, they come for Antonia. All alone, Rook runs to the only other magical person he knows: Sun. Except Fable has also been attacked, and now Rook and Sun have no choice but to work together to get their mentors backor face losing their magic forever.

Rook and Sun just want to impress their mentors and be the best magic users they can be. But ithings get complicated when the Consortium starts to pay them some notice. This was a pretty fun read! It's definitely very young adult, but I think anyone looking for a bit of fluffy reading with magic, charming characters, romance, and vengeance you can feel great about will enjoy this read. This reminded me strongly of Owl House. #LGBTQIA #Magic

The romance in this book was lovely. I really enjoyed the characters and the build up.

I was disappointed by the ending. Deus ex machina upped which I generally dislike. It felt unearned.

This is my new favorite Lukens novel. I loved this magical world of sorcery! Rook is desperate to be a part of the magical world despite not having magic & convinces a powerful curse breaker w/a penchant for breaking the rules to accept him. He meets another apprentice, Sun, who reluctantly becomes his friend despite their social aversion & prickliness. But when the Consortium finds out about Rook they must work together to save both their mentors

I finally got a physical copy!!

This #book has plot but you know what else it has? Amazing characters, character interactions, and a meet-cute #romance that has me crying and giggling into my hands. OMG, this gave me so many cavities! I LOVED IT.

Have you read it??

Do you ever feel intimidated after finishing a book? Like hmm, what should I read next? Except that there's a fear of choosing the "wrong" book? And then you end up taking forever to choose...!

I'm only at the start of this series of events. Ahhh, I wish I could just CHOOSE something but nothing is *really* calling to me, you know?? I know I want to read something queer...but what?

I want it to be fun like Spellbound ?

I really loved this book. Rook, as he has been renamed, has talked his way into a job with Antonia, a powerful sorcerer and hex breaker. He is supposed to be keeping his head down since he has no magic himself, but that doesn't happen. And Sun, the Apprentice of Antonia's colleague is another distraction 😽

If you love a good sunshine and grumpy duo this may be the queer book for you. I absolutely dove into Lukens new book knowing I would find a cast of intriguing characters and a plot that would pull me in. I loved how sweet Rook and Sun end up falling, the moments that really pulled them together in this book.
Definitely going to be one of my top favorite books of this year.
