This was a super powerful story. I feel like there aren‘t too many children‘s book about the holocaust so this would be a good resource for students to use to learn about the time period.

I would consider having a book that is based on a similar story line in my classroom. This is a very important piece of history for students to learn about, and it is not something that can be left out of lessons. Picture books are a great way to get these lessons across to students!

The Butterfly: Published in 2000 is a story about the Nazi‘s invading France and taking Jews hostage during the war. I this story there is a family who is taking care of a Jewish family that is on the run from the Nazi soldiers. It is a very sad story about the realities of the war. It may be a little long and complicated for my future students, but it is an important story for them to hear about so they can recognize this part of history

This book would be difficult for children unless they are older. It is cool how it has another language weaves into it but it would probably confuse young kids.

Patricia Polacco does it again. She is such a phenomenal writer and author that I believe every child should be introduced to. Although this story is heartbreaking, older children will be introduced to what Nazi's are as they read about a true friendship and what it means to truly hide. This book is absolutely beautiful.

Great book! Wonderful pictures to describe the authors meaning of the story. Would be good for an older class room and in a social studies/history class. The Nazis started a war and two little girls found each other to make a bond, once they were found their families weren‘t so happy.

#LiteraryLove Day 13: The story begins one night inside Monique‘s bedroom in Choisy-le Roi, outside of Paris. The next day, Monique saw Nazi soldiers taking away one of their beloved neighbors, Monsieur Marks who owns a candy shop (#CandyLover) and would always have a “bright drop of sweetness” for Monique and her friend Denise. This made the war seem larger than life in Monique‘s eyes. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-83X

“The Butterfly” written by Patricia Polacco is a historical fiction book perfect for introducing children to major historical events such as the holocaust. This book appropriately touches on the sensitive topic by following a young girl who‘s village has been terrorized by terrorists. This would be used best as a read aloud followed by the reading and writing activities that can be found in the following website:

Jbombardiere https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.brighthubeducation.com/lesson-plans-grades-1-2/... . The UDL principles addressed are 7.2- optimize relevance, value and authenticity. The EL strategy that can be used for this book would be #26 if maintaining a library of supplementary books and workbooks. 7y

The Butterfly, a HF taking place in France during Nazi Germany is surprisingly a very happy story happening in a dark time. I don't want to share too much of the plot, but it intrigued me even as an adult! Here's a lesson plain that goes with this book: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.brighthubeducation.com/lesson-plans-grades-1-2/... #ucflae3414su17
