Lore Olympus: Volume Four
Lore Olympus: Volume Four | Rachel Smythe
22 posts | 26 read | 4 to read
Witness what the gods do after dark in the third volume of a stylish and contemporary reimagining of one of the best-known stories in Greek mythology, featuring a brand-new, exclusive short story from creator Rachel Smythe. "I don't always get to do as I please." The rumor mill of Olympus is constantly churning, but Persephone and Hades are all anyone can talk about. With the constant gossip creating intense pressure on the pair, they decide to slow down their budding romance and focus on sorting out their own issues first. But that's easier said than done. Hades struggles to find support in his personal life, with Zeus trivializing his feelings and Minthe resorting to abusive patterns in their relationship. And while Hades tries to create healthier boundaries where he can--like finally putting a stop to his sporadic, revenge-fueled hookups with Hera--he still feels lonely and adrift. Persephone feels equally ostracized as her classmates shun her for her connection to Hades, and she can find no refuge at home, with Apollo constantly dropping by unannounced and pushing his unwelcome advances. And on top of it all, the wrathful god of war, Ares, has returned to Olympus to dredge up his sordid history with the goddess of spring, threatening to surface Persephone's dark and mysterious past and ruin her tenuous position in the land of the gods. Despite agreeing to take it slow, Persephone and Hades find themselves inextricably drawn toward each other once more amid the chaos. The pull of fate cannot be denied. This edition of Rachel Smythe's original Eisner-nominated webcomic Lore Olympus features exclusive behind-the-scenes content and brings the Greek pantheon into the modern age in a sharply perceptive and romantic graphic novel. This volume collects episodes 76-102 of the #1 WEBTOON comic Lore Olympus.

It's so nice to go back and re-read the story, better to own my own copy. I'm still enjoying the modern settings and the way that Smythe has reconstructed the characters as she tells her narrative. It's a definite slow burn between Hades and Persephone here.
A lot of additional characters have their moments to allow the story to build on what was already introduced in the previous volumes.

DRAAAAAMAAAAA! What else can one expect from Olympians, honestly? While I admit I occasionally get tired of the 'will they, won't they' that is the backbone of this series, it continues to have relatable conversations about relationships, and there was an important confrontation I'd been waiting on, in this volume. For now, still interested in continuing.

It's getting addictive... You just want to know what happens next.

Rachel Smythe integrates very smoothly phones and social media into her stories, which actually few authors manage to do well. It's really a plus for me.

A lot of interesting themes too: sexual violence, toxic relationships, boundaries, love, friendship, etc.

Uh, Zeus? EVERYBODY thinks you‘re a bad husband. You‘re kind of the definition of bad husband.

Another great installment. I wish I‘d reread the previous books before diving in, because I thought I‘d remember where the story left off but was a little muddled. Still, a great series. I think the next book is due in October or so. Sigh. I love the way Smythe handles trauma and mental health in general.

GingerAntics Zeus really is a terrible husband. I don‘t think anyone in the world is holding him up as a model of ideal husbands. 1y

I'm truly enjoying this series. I love how there are so many God's and Goddesses and how they each have such quirky elements. I can see why this was such a popular Web Toon.

Linear It still is ❤️ 1y

…and I‘m done. 😭😭 I love this series so much I love the art, the colors, and the storylines. It is the slowest of slow burn romances, which is not my favorite, but ugh. It‘s so beautiful, I adore Hades and Persephone and Smythe‘s version of Greek Mythology.

I have six books I am supposed to finish by the end of the month and most of them are chunksters or near-chunksters. BUT, I went to my happy place this morning and I will be reading none of what I‘m supposed to today. Instead I will be devouring Lore Olympus Vol. 4. #sorrynotsorry #bookhaul

Of course it was fantastic. This retelling of Hades and Persephone, an Eisner Award winning comic, keeps getting better and better. Love the art, the colors, and the story which brings this myth into the modern age. Highly recommended.

#NCBD and the tagged book is a definite highlight. Also, lots of Star Wars, Love Everlasting, Dark Knights of Steel (superheroes in medieval times), a new Fence comic and a Skottie Young variant. So much fun reading!

I came across this book via a B&N post on Facebook. Every time I go to the bookstore the covers catch my eye.

I‘m sure there are Littens who have read it. Recommend the series?

Kimberlone I only recently got into it. I don‘t have the book, but have been catching up on the webtoons for free! 2y
