Agatha Raisin and the Love from Hell
Agatha Raisin and the Love from Hell | M. C. Beaton
19 posts | 30 read | 3 to read
Recently married to James Lacey, the witty and fractious Agatha Raisin quickly finds that marriage, and love, are not all they are cracked up to be. Rather than basking in marital bliss, the newlyweds are living in separate cottages and accusing each other of infidelity. After a particularly raucous fight in the local pub, James suddenly vanishes-a bloodstain the only clue to his fate-and Agatha is the prime suspect. Determined to clear her name and find her husband, Agatha begins her investigation. But her sleuthing is thwarted when James's suspected mistress, Melissa, is found murdered. Joined by her old friend Sir Charles, Agatha digs into Melissa's past and uncovers two ex-husbands, an angry sister, and dubious relations with bikers. Are Melissa's death and James's disappearance connected? Will Agatha reunite with her husband or will she find herself alone once again? Find out in M.C. Beaton's Agatha Raisin and the Love from Hell.

I love Agatha Raisin! She's a mid-life woman who always ends up in the middle of murder investigations. Agatha has finally married James, who I think is a jerk, but things aren't as happy as she thought they would be married. When James ends up missing and a woman acquitance is murdered, Agatha gets involved to clear James' name. Will Agatha, with the help of Charles, figure out what's really going on.

Short review: James is loathsome.

Longer review: Agatha Raisin becomes embroiled in a murder in Carsley, thanks in part to James and his disappearance from the village. One can hope that Agatha learns a few things after everything that happens to her in this book. Another fun listen.

I‘ve loved every Agatha Raisin book so far, and this one is no different. Penelope Keith once again narrated it on audio like a champ! I love her voice!

I ❤️ Agatha! I‘m so happy that it looks like James “Twat Waffle” Lacey is out the picture finally!!! His treatment of Agatha in this book was beyond deplorable. Charles is amazing and I loved finding out the reason why he is so cheap lol. This was probably one of my favorite of the series so far.

I listened to the majority of this on Wednesday and Thursday while #audiocooking — I had a hard time putting it down! I really like how, even though these are technically cozy mysteries, they don‘t follow a typical predictable formula. I love Agatha despite her flaws and I like her more with each book. Her love life is in shambles as usual and of course there‘s a dead body or two. I love this series! 5⭐️

The title of this is spot on - Agatha and James's relationship at the beginning was beyond annoying (although the title is probably referring to other aspects of the plot). I almost couldn't stand to keep listening but luckily the story moved on and I liked the rest of it.

quietjenn Agatha's love life drama is my least favorite thing about this series. 7y
Amie @quietjenn sometimes I find it amusing but I get annoyed with how she immediately wants to marry every guy she goes out with and her on-again-off-again thing with James is annoying. 7y

Not feeling the greatest so did the rare thing and called in sick today. Just gives an opportunity to catch up on book reviews from #24in48 !

Agatha is at it again, solving crimes with a cast of characters that are humorous and flawed. In this particular book, I felt so bad for Agatha - you kind of get the gist of the mood from the title. Yet, she perseveres, in the way she knows how.

My A for #litsyAtoZ and fits #readharder for one sit book.

Librarybelle Book review 1/7. #readharder2018 7y

Eggs Happy reading 7y
Librarybelle @Eggs 🙂❤️ 7y
AlaMich I keep thinking I should try Agatha Raisin. I‘ve read some of Beaton‘s books from a Regency romance series and enjoyed them, but I think I‘ve been overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of Raisin books 😊 7y
Librarybelle @AlaMich They are quick and fun. She writes one Agatha Raisin and one Hamish Macbeth a year...both have a multitude of titles in the series! 7y

Starting to collect my pile for the #24in48 readathon, if I don‘t read them before then!

Mollyanna Exciting! I‘m starting to think about mine as well. Love Agatha Raisin. I just discovered her last year. 7y
Librarybelle @Mollyanna She‘s hilarious, and I can usually read one of the books in a few hours. 7y
Rachellynnwright I‘m collecting my books as well! I‘ve chosen mainly graphic novels, short books, and a few audiobooks. And perhaps an Agatha Christie:) 7y

Librarybelle @Rachellynnwright You can‘t go wrong with an Agatha Christie! I may have one to add to the mix as well. 🙂 7y
Andrew65 I enjoy the Agatha Raisin series but took 2 or 3 books for Agatha to grow on me. 7y
Librarybelle @Andrew65 She‘s special! 😉 7y
Andrew65 @Librarybelle In so many ways, she does create a number of hilarious events with her actions! 😂 7y
CoffeeCatsBooks I really loved My Favorite Thing is Monsters! 💕 7y

ferskner Thanks for the reminder! I create epic stacks for the @DeweysReadathon, but never remember for @24in48. What's your strategy? 7y
Librarybelle @ferskner I look for books that are quick reads, so I can read a variety of topics and characters. Different stories help keep my mind active during all of the reading! 🙂 7y

A light fluffy read. I love reading this series . I watched some of the TV series and loved it. Now when I read I have the actress who plays Agatha in my head. Normally don't like that but in this case makes it a better read for me.

Oh, my little Chico... he's helping me with my headache (that I'm trying to cut off before it becomes a migraine). I've had off for this whole week except for today when #litsypartyofone starts, of course, and not only did I wake up with this doozy of a headache, but I have to mail something for my neighbors and sign some financial paperwork this afternoon too. Plus work at 3:30. Blerg! Off to take more meds and coffee. And hopefully read!!!

Sace 😔 I hope Chico cures you. 8y

Went to the library today to return one forgotten book. Did a quick walk around and came home with these. Can't help myself.. Will definitely read the top and bottom one. The others I shall see.

This was slightly longer than most of the books in the series, and I feel it was a better read for this very reason - it allowed a bit more depth in the story. Interesting to see how the relationship between Agatha and James Lacey developed. Her personal life is rather like a car crash!

Tracey_19 One day I'll read this series!! 8y
Andrew65 Have you tried any of her Hamish Macbeth books? 8y
