Pretty good.
I rate my book at 4⭐️
Not bad, it did a good job developing the main character instead of just throwing you into the fire with them. Small town Texas and the secrets within the town. I didn‘t even bother trying to figure out who the culprit was. This is book #1 in a new series.
At 1st I didn‘t understand the lower rating on Goodreads for this one but over time I got it. I liked the book, but it dragged at parts. It‘s definitely more of a literary mystery than a thriller. It‘s about a young woman who comes back to her hometown after college & gets involved in her family‘s private investigating business when one of her colleagues at the cafe she works at is murdered. I‘ll still read the 2nd book when it comes out in April.
Annie returns to her Texas hometown after college. At loose ends, she works at the town cafe. When a co-worker is murdered, she joins her PI grandad to solve the crime. Her cousin Nikki, who always has her back, investigates honky tonk bars & other questionable places/people with her.The descriptions of the wide open landscape & the natural world are vivid, beautiful,& gritty, evoking a sense of loneness but also a feeling of connection to the land.
Pay Dirt Road is a mystery novel about a young woman who returns to her hometown after college only to find herself wrapped up in a local murder investigation. I highly recommend this slow burn and thoughtful mystery. I hope to see future novels from Samantha Jayne Allen!
