This is a story set between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi where Luke, Leia and co are trying to rescue Han from Boba Fett. The story ends when they're about to infiltrate Jabba's palace.

The development of Darth Vader's character in this is especially fantastic, as you get to see more into his mind than you do in the films.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆

My husband doesn't read much, but when he does it's usually politics or Star Wars. I picked him up this book on a recent second hand bookstore jaunt. He's also more into the dark side stories than I am. This book had George Lucas involvement from what I've read which, in theory, makes it part of the canon. I look forward to seeing what he thinks of it.

While still very entertaining I had a harder time getting into this Star Wars novel then I had the other few I‘ve finished! I‘m now 1 book closer to finishing every Star Wars novel ever written!!!

Finished my 77th Star Wars book last night.

The story pits Darth Vader and Prince Xizor against each other over the capture of Luke while he, Leia, Chewie, and Lando are trying to rescue Han before he‘s delivered to Jabba.

A most excellent read!

Liatrek I love Star Wars and have always wanted to read the books. Is there a book you recommend to start with? 7y
TheBookgeekFrau @Liatrek Might as well start at the beginning with the Old Republic series, the first of which is Revan. The whole series was really good, deals more with the Force and the Jedi/Sith aspects of it 7y
Liatrek @C.Perone Thanks! I'm looking for books to read with my son over the Summer and he loves the Old Republic. 7y
TheBookgeekFrau @Liatrek You‘re welcome😊 They‘ll give you and your son lots to discuss! Enjoy!! 7y
iamChandra @C.Perone Darth Vader😊😍 7y

#novembertbr #photoadaynov16 I am preparing to be a guest on a podcast next month celebrating the twentieth anniversary of these books! #starwars homework is the best kind of homework!

Bradleygirl I loved Shadows of the Empire just bc it gave a transition from maimed-Luke to Jedi-Luke that I could be happy with! 8y
GregoryCass Great point! I also think it did significant work for Leia as well by developing her emotions after the "I know" moment 8y

For my #laidbackbook, I will lift up the Star Wars extended universe before Disney wiped them out. Every July, I would take a break from work type books and enter into Sci Fi Summer. I would begin with all the Star Wars books written that year.
Shadows was the first one I ever read and it blew my mind. I even have a Prince Xizor statue on my desk at work.
