This is an ambitious and informative work. While it does have its own politics, the author has achieved the book‘s stated goal.

This book covers the last 3.500 yrs of Jerusalem‘s story. So there‘s A LOT OF names. And there‘s been a lot of wars. I guess that for a the longest time, war documents is the only documents that has been written and survived. Then as the story moves into the 1800s the story changes. Suddenly there‘s talk about writers like Gogel, Melville and Thackeray. And I particularly enjoyed that. Selma Lagerløf‘s Jerusalem is also mentioned.

“And all the roads we have to walk are winding...And all the lights that lead us there are blinding” For me,this Wall is my truest #Wonderwall ☮️🕎💟It‘s a place where I feel the presence of History surging through my blood. A place where I go to remember the world is much larger than me. And once again I share another video of the awe that still exists in the simplest forms. #OneLoveOneHeart

Costco grab. Looks very interesting.
So, I have a major announcement! Starting in August, I will be serving in the Lutheran church's Young Adults in Global Mission program for one year. I'll be living in the Jerusalem/West Bank area, learning Arabic, sharing life with a host family, working in Palestinian schools, and growing in faith! I am SO overjoyed! Book recommendations, words of wisdom, and questions are welcome and appreciated! 😊💛
I was gripped by this book which is jam packed with the history of Jerusalem. There is so much more to read around it, however, I went for Exodus by Leon Uris directly after. Also binged on The History of the Arab Spring Podcast to try and get a fair and complete picture. See also The Crusades by Thomas Asbridge.
This book made me see the rodiculousness of all organised religions.
My husband & I took a drive to Jerusalem today. No matter your religion, there is something very powerful and magnetic when you touch the ancient stones, and walk the cobblestone alleys. As I stood and reflected in front of the Western Wall, I had many of you and your loved ones in mind. I prayed for renewed health, healing, good outcomes, success and fulfillment. May these prayers be answered for each of us. 🙏🏻💕🙏🏻
Simon's historical findings on Jerusalem has exceeded all my expectations. He doesn't simply describe Jerusalem's history; he takes the theological explanations from major religions and creates this diverse and descriptive historical story that is backed with archeological findings that satisfies on so many levels.
Bill Clinton's endorsement doesn't hurt either.
Tis quite the adventure.
