Jumping straight into book 3 of #20in4 while I head home from work. This is the oldest book on my #NetGalleyAudio shelf, so it‘s time to get to it. 💙

I honestly wanted to like it but there was so much in the book that I thought could be explained better. I never fully understood why Persephone‘s eyes make people want to hurt themselves, and I still don‘t get how she “walks between worlds.” Even a magic library couldn‘t make me like this book more than I did.
AS AMARA MAYFAIR STOOD on the cliffs of Wile Isle, she wasn‘t thinking about power, not at first, though power was certainly in play. She wasn‘t thinking about magic either, though the sky was filled with it. As light danced around her, and electricity sparked in the palms of her hands, she was thinking about family.

The story was so engaging that you want to know the whole story but the writing had me struggling through.
Sigh. I was so excited to pull this off of my book shelf for #Scarathlon - I‘ve tried to read it 3 times now and I just can‘t get into it. It bummed me out so much that I didn‘t pick up another book yesterday and I‘ve just decided to bail so I don‘t lose my reading groove.
Warning: do not take a shot every time Persephone says "I don't understand." You'll be wasted throughout the whole book.
I liked the set up to the story but then it just kept going on and on without getting anywhere. I ran out of time to finish listening before the library took it back but I don't really care how it ends. ?♀️
I feel like I should be worried 😬🤔😈
Finally finished the memoirs I had been working on. While both were fantastic reads I am so happy to be diving back into fantasy.

There was so much I loved in this book, but then parts of it needed to be edited in order to make the flow better. My favorite part was the library! 💚
Overall it's a fun read about a girl who never quite fits in but who finally finds her family. The various witches and their powers were interesting and the world building was solid.
I really wanted the book about the witch who has the ability to destroy people with her gaze, can‘t connect with anyone and desperately needs a cure. Unfortunately, I got a Mary Sue Chosen One witch who spends a lot of time in witchy family interpersonal drama and portals into parallel worlds. I didn‘t enjoy the setting, the characters or the romance.
A curse, a family feud, and a whole lot of magic. Read my review here: https://debbybrauer.org/#the-orphan-witch
