The first thing I thought of was Sheldon Cooper's Fun with flags. I decided I needed to come up with a book too.

The son of one of the flag raisers wrote a powerful account of six very different men who came together in the heroic battle for Iwo Jima in WW2

I'm using just a touch of this in class tomorrow, hoping to stimulate a discussion on the reasons people do research ...
Okay. Here‘s what I have to say about Bradley being misidentified. It was the second flag-raising, he definitely scaled that mountain with the first group and raised the first flag. He ABSOLUTELY earned his Navy Cross many times over by ignoring his own personal safety to help others. He wasn‘t a braggart. As far as I‘m concerned, any American with boots on that island was a hero. This book is well-researched and a worthy read.
Only a certain type of nerd would be as excited as I am to get a letter in this envelope. #thegreatestgeneration
Excellent read if you are looking to learn more about the flag raisers during the Battle of Iwo Jima. Well written and researched.
Today the word "hero" has been diminished. confused with "celebrity." But in my father's generation the word meant something.
celebrities seek fame. They take actions to get attention. Most often, the actions they take have no particular moral content. Heroes are heroes because they have risked something to help others. Their actions involve courage. Often, those heroes have been indifferent to the public's attention.
Worth the read. Why? Because it examines the stories of men fighting to capture Iwo Jima. It is well written and revealing in more ways than one. The truth about Doc Bradley and his role in the flag raising adds a different element to the story in my opinion and left a lot of intriguing questions
Now I'm going to read into everything!!! @StephTKO @brendanmleonard
How should I feel when I realize with LESS THAN ONE HUNDRED PAGES LEFT that the focus of this story isn't true. Now mind you this is a really good book but the author's father, whose own story plays a huge part in the book, is inaccurate! What the what?!
"The flagraising did not signify the end of the battle. It was just beginning."
Old school STD check after the guys came back from "leave" ???? so gross, but that poem.
