Trying to find meaning again. 📚📚📚
Hey everyone!! Need some advice. I‘d like to take a reading retreat on a budget. Ideally, I‘d like to go solo, somewhere in the U.S. for about a week, somewhere bed and breakfast-y, points for history, points for haunted, points if they‘ll feed me, and I‘d like it to be somewhere quiet and in nature (Lakes, mountains, woody, pass on beaches because I live in Florida). Can you think of anywhere that fits the bill? Google isn‘t really helping.
Oh Jon, always involved in the kookiest shenanigans.
Truly excellent. Best novel I‘ve read (well, listened to) in a very, very long time.
I haven‘t a clue where this story is going or what‘s actually going on, but the writing is certainly quotable. And much of what is happening in the story works on two levels, literal and metaphorical, me gusta.
T-T yaaaaas. Found this on https://libraryhotel.com/en/.
I don‘t know why I fight it. No matter how many positive professional reviews or awards a book receives, if it has less than a 3.8 in Goodreads, it‘s probably not worth reading.
So... I haven‘t read the other three novels in the quartet or looked up any critical writing on this book, but my take on the ending is that the children die. What say ye, Litsy?
I finally got a new phone so... I‘m back. 😈 Ta-nehisi Coates on audio.
Yup, that pretty much sums it up for me.
Next up on audio. Please be as awesome as everyone says.
Meh. Not great, not terrible. Reverse coming of age story.
Had to give up on Behind Closed Doors, starting this on audio.
Alright, I've gotten to part 5 of 8. So far I dislike all the characters and I'm starting not to care what happens. Litsians who have read this: is there something mind blowing that will happen in the second half of this book that will make it worth finishing? Or should I just read a spoiler and move on with my life?
Next up on audio, another book from the same list of "books you can't put down." Touted as the next Gone Girl. We shall see.
Saw this on a list of "books you can't put down." Not quite that good, but excellent story telling. Not what I expected.
Next up on serial reader, more classic horror (that I probably won't really enjoy).
I want to love these classic horror tales but I'm afraid that I never will.
Started off strong but petered out towards the middle and I lost interest.
Probably 3.5, but maybe I'm being unkind because I really enjoyed this book. A short reflection on how familial bonds are complex, especially when the specter of childhood poverty and abuse looms in adulthood.
Well, I guess at least I'm back in the audiobook groove. Thoughts on this one?
I've been in a rut, unable to read anything. Making another attempt to kick start my old reading habits with these two. I wish I could find something really engrossing, no matter the genre. Recommendations welcome.
Been an absentee reader due to life's circumstances. Hoping to get back on the wagon. (Is that a saying?)
Two volumes down, only 21 more to go. It's been over 10 years since I read this series last. It's like seeing old friends.
I need to read everything by Shirley Jackson. What a literary G.
I did some damage at an indie bookshop for Black Friday. Dead Rules sounds SO cool, I bought it despite less than stellar ratings.
I saw this touted as scary, creepy and reminiscent of House of Leaves. I stuck with it until the end for the big reveal, I somehow must have missed it. Overall, meh.
I am dying to reading something engrossing about a girl kicking butt/saving the world while also potentially falling in love. I'm looking to seriously lose myself in a fictional world. Think in the vein of The Hunger Games, Vampire Academy, A Court of Thorns and Roses. Doesn't necessarily need to be YA though. Tell me your thoughts Litsy!!!
I've been so busy I haven't had much reading or listening time. I'm hoping this one will pull me out of this slump!! Please be engrossing and terrifying!
Really enjoyed this one - Florence, a feminist OG, is my favorite fictional character of the year.
Between a pick and a so-so. I enjoyed the cultural setting the most. Sort of in the style of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, minus the magical realism.
And some #scifi to temper the terror of #scaretober 😱
#scaretober Doing the rounds of the all the horror books I should have read already.
Oh this? Just a little light reading in preparation for my dream job that I'm starting soon. ☺️
More philosophical than informative. Good listen.
Next up on audio! Oh science-y non-fiction, I have missed you so.
