pickThis is a soft pick ⭐️⭐️⭐️. The world building and the creatures were really interesting but I didn‘t feel any attachment to the characters. It felt too long and honestly I‘m trying to figure why it‘s a three book series. I already bought the next books so I‘ll continue to see where it goes.

so-soThe creatures were interesting. The tale is slow and too long for the amount of plot. Also, since it is the first in a series, it doesn‘t end. That said, the mythological portions were well done.
The next row of my #readinglogsnake is Beasts of Prey. This was a #rplbooksandbrews read for June and If All Arkansas Read The Same Book for 2023. I love the author's take on African Mythos with this story. I may continue the series later. 3/5 ⭐️ #ARRCReads #BooksAndCrafts

You will never convince me that even though this book is about magic and monsters and gods and identity crises, it is ABSOLUTELY a romance.
Starting this one tonight. I‘m having a hard time focusing on one book for too long, I keep jumping around 🤷🏻♀️
pickI couldn‘t put this one down! Two characters team up in an unlikely alliance to catch an elusive jungle beast that preys on civilians. I wish I had more characters to describe all I liked in this novel - the plot, the characters, the African influence, the magic, and the writing style. The one thing I didn‘t like was that it ended on a cliffhanger and now I have to wait until the next one! But that‘s always a good problem to have, isn‘t it?
I‘m loving this book so much more than Master of Poisons! And shoutout to my sister for getting me an iced coffee while I can‘t leave my condo.
pickWhat an incredible start to this series. The events are told not only from the perspective of two main characters, but the reader gets to see things from through the eyes of a third character as well, and Grey does a great job of bringing the various events and perspectives together at just the right time. The characters themselves are well developed and the reader can‘t help but to root for them as they grow and fight for what they feel is right.
pickKoffi is an indentured servant alongside her mother is a special zoo; Ekon is an orphan brought up in the temple and desperate to become a warrior. Both live in a city plagued by an evil that kills humans. This is an enjoyable YA fantasy steeped in African mythology. I found many of the plot developments predictable but I still liked it. I look forward to the next installment!

Halfway through this book I googled when the sequel was scheduled and apparently tricked myself into thinking it was sooner. Enjoyable and I think would appeal to folks who like the themes in Raybreaker of learning the things left out of the stories we've been told.
pickOh My Gosh the twists and turns in the book had me guessing and my heart pounding. Very well done mixing Koffi and Ekon‘s story with Adiah‘s. Beautifully written with such hope and heartache. All with the simple question; why not choose both your heart and your head when deciding? The mythos and rules of magic is so creative and fresh. You can tell the author wanted to rethink ideas of good v evil. Astonishing debut here

It‘s always nice to get the title of the book mentioned in the book. This book is wild more so than the bizarre Night Zoo (which is terrifying more than the creatures but how it‘s set up). These three characters are spread out well in their perspectives. Although there is still a bunch of mystery amping them.

Everything about this story sounds intriguing. I‘ve heard only good things, let alone the enemy‘s have to work together to catch a wild beast type trope. I love the idea of a magic Night Zoo, especially in a world where magic has been striped from everyone. Also look forward to the gifts just because I like the snake on the small box blurred here. pickI rate this about 3.5-4 stars out of 5. It was good, but I didn‘t devour it. It‘s from multiple POV which I‘m not the biggest fan of, but she did it well and I enjoyed it. There are some really good twists throughout the whole story, which I was pleasantly surprised by. So if you haven‘t picked it up you should! #good #beastsofprey #cliffhanger

An excellent debut & start of a new fantasy series. The Night Zoo & Greater Jungle were both intriguing and exciting. The world building was phenomenally seamless. At no point did I feel like I was ever reading a description of the world or magic system but at no point was I ever confused by them either. I enjoyed the characters, they all had engaging background stories. I look forward to the sequel!

The story revolves around two black teenagers. Koffi is an indentured servant at the Night Zoo, where she communicates with and cares for the animals. Ekon is a candidate to become a Son of the Six, an elite warrior. They're both stuck in bad situations when they decide to team up.
panYeah, this one was disappointing. As soon as I saw the cover, I knew I wanted it.
I think the part when this really went wrong was the characters.They were idiots.They truly made decisions like a 12 year old boy.Even though they were in a deadly jungle, they still put themselves at risk constantly. And that constant risk of their lives ended up driving the plot, not the premise we were introduced to.
pickWithout a doubt this debut is the one of the best YA fantasies I‘ve read in years. Once a city filled with magic, Lkossa is a shadow of itself, the city‘s residents living in fear of a monster stalking the jungle surrounding the city. Two teens set out to hunt the creature getting more than they ever bargained for when they head into the jungle. Great characters, intriguing magic system, engaging, well-written story. Recommended. On sale 9/28/21.
