3 posts | 3 read | 1 reading | 1 to read
New York Times bestselling author TJ Klune invites you back to the land of Verania in a new collection of short stories starring the beloved characters from the Tales of Verania series. In the opening story-The Unicorn in the Tower-Gary is a princess trapped in a stone tower by the evil Lady Tina DeSilva, who plans on sacrificing him on the first full moon after his eighteenth birthday. With help from his friends-a bird named Tiggy and a mangy weasel called Sam-Gary interviews potential suitors to rescue him and love him above all others, as he so rightly deserves. The Unicorn in the Tower is followed by Sam and the Beanstalk, wherein a poor farm boy exchanges his family's bull for magical beans and the promise of treasure in the sky. But when he climbs the beanstalk, Sam finds things are not as he expected them to be.The Good Boy sees Todd and his immaculate ears taking center stage. When Todd's father dies, he leaves his son in the care of his evil stepmother and two stepsiblings who live to make Todd's life a living hell. It's not until the household receives an invitation to attend a ball for the mysterious Sir that Todd begins to wish for a life beyond what he knows.David's Dragon, the final-and only canonical-tale, is set a thousand years before the rise of the Dark wizard Myrin. It begins simply: a lonely boy in a small village befriends a dragon. What follows is a story of love and sacrifice, hope and heartbreak, and what it means to earn your place amongst the stars.Welcome back to Verania. It's going to be a hell of a ride.

Pickpick

Four short stories from the world of TJ Klune‘s Tales of Verania series. I haven‘t read it, but I sure want to after reading this. This is definitely for adults. There is plenty of swearing and it gets a bit spicy in places. If you‘ve read anything by Sarah J. Maas, Rebecca Yarros, or Alexis Hall you‘ll be fine with this. This is not at all what I was expecting from TJ Klune, honestly. This is no Cerulean Sea. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

GingerAntics I laughed through the entire first story. Ru Paul could have also narrated that one and it would have been equally brilliant. The second story echoed a single line from The House in the Cerulean Sea, that was pretty cute. The third story referenced TBBT (obscurely) and then Home Alone. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 2mo
GingerAntics I couldn‘t help laughing when I got to those parts. The fourth (last) story is my absolute favourite, and it‘s also the only story that exists within the canon of the original series. #TJKlune #FairytalesFromVerania #shortstories #spicy 🌶️ #snarky #sweet 2mo

As a book with a 4.5 rating, with THIS as the only written review… on top of what I know about TJ Klune‘s beautiful writing, 😂🤣😂 oh my god I can‘t wait to read this!
(*I think Karen means INappropriate foul language… can‘t wait to hear it!)

Texreader I sadly object to the stereotypes of Karens. Karens of the world need to unite… ☺️ 2mo
GingerAntics @Texreader that is fair. I feel so bad for the nice, lovely Karens in the world. 2mo
julesG TJ Klune's Wolfsong series gets quite graphic. Obscene? Not sure, I have a high tolerance threshold. Some people, expecting closed door romance and flowery prose, might be offended. 2mo

julesG Klune excels at both. Read the book and tell us your verdict 2mo
TrishB Inappropriate to whom? How do people get to judge that for other people. 2mo
GingerAntics @TrishB inappropriate to someone who expects that Klune can only do Cerulean Sea. There is a lot of swearing, but I didn‘t find it “inappropriate.” It‘s got some spice, but less than Sarah J. Maas or Rebecca Yarros. The final story is the only story that is canonical to the accompanying series, and it had none of that, but was actually quite sweet. 2mo
GingerAntics @TrishB I laughed through the entire first story. Michael Lesley did an amazing job narrating, but it could have been narrated by Ru Paul to similar effect. That was probably also the most “crass” of the stories. It was almost like shock and awe comedy to really kick things off. 😂 2mo
GingerAntics @julesG I may have to read the Wolfsong series. I‘m also thinking I‘m going to have to read the series this is a spin off of. The one story that was canonical to that series was so beautiful and wonderful, it‘s made me want to read more. 2mo
vlwelser Ooooh! Appropriate foul language! Sounds interesting. 2mo

New release; I tried a sample, but I wasn't expecting a sex satire and this is not to my taste.

esurient Research indicates this is not a standalone entry work. It seems better suited for existing fans of Klune's Verania series, which I had never heard of before. (edited) 4y
