Thank you so much @BeaG for the wonderful #HauntedHallowSwap package. That‘s one of my most wished for books on my wish list and the pumpkin decoration is beautiful! Love it!

and mad?"

2nd book complete for #Screamathon! This was a great gothic horror novel that reminded me a bit of Mexican Gothic (although I liked MG better). I love no Les set in old, sinister homes with creepy, neurotic families. 😂
This was also my #doublespin pick @TheAromaofBooks
What‘s up first on your October #screamathon stack?
And here‘s the real question: are you starting it today? 👻 If I finish my current read, I may dip into this book tonight!
Finally got this finished ( bloody kids going back to uni and all their moving details 🤣) this gothic mystery is my perfect level of creepy goodness 🖤🖤
I‘m not getting much reading done. Too easily distracted by my brain swirling with back to school lists
Made it to a cottage and it stopped raining
Haven‘t read this one yet, it‘s on my TBR for September. And my favorite mug to use this time of year!

This book is a modern-day, Georgian-type Gothic novel. They were so many places in which it reminded me of Jane Eyre. I have heard that many people thought it was too predictable and, I agree, that it was. For that reason, I almost rated it lower until I really thought about how enjoyable it was to read. The writing was perfect for this type of story.
This one kept me reading but it never really moved out of the so-so category. I liked the gothic setting and the immersion in the artistic life but the characters were a bit meh and the story too predictable. #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
Claustrophobic is how this book feels. Freya stumbles upon a painting of her dead sister in an old mansion Soon she falls into the oppressive world of Byrne Hall. The story is similar to Mexican Gothic. It was atmospheric, but dragged & the character choices were infuriating.
“I kept waiting for him to ask me what was up, but he never did. Sometimes I think he‘s so comfortable w/silences that he doesn‘t realize how much their quality can vary.”
In which nothing happens for 300 odd pages and the heroine is a big dummy. All the comparisons I've seen to Rebecca are ludicrous.

Hey, Group C! Welcome to another round. Here are three of the books I was thinking of. I am leaning toward The Whispering House but any of them would be good. Let me know what you think!
Yay! My #MMDBookClub Summer reading books arrived from #TheNovelNeighbor today.
• People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry
• Sparks Like Stars by Nadia Hashimi
• The Whispering House by Elizabeth Brooks
