The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes
The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes | Xio Axelrod
12 posts | 9 read | 7 to read
Her name's Antonia "Toni" Bennette (yeah, she's heard all the jokes before) and she's not a rock star. Neither are the Lillysnot yet. But the difference between being famous and being almost famous can be a single wrong note...or the start of something that'll change your life forever. Growing up in dive bars up and down the East Coast, Toni Bennette's guitar was her only companion...until she met Sebastian Quick. Seb was a little older, a lot wiser, and before long he was Toni's way out, promising they'd escape their stifling small town together. Then Seb turned eighteen and split without looking back. Now, Toni's all grown up and making a name for herself in Philadelphia's indie scene. When a friend suggests she try out for a hot new up-and-coming band, Toni decides to take a chance. Strong, feminist, and fierce as fire, Toni B. and the Lillys are the perfect match...except Seb's now moonlighting as their manager. Whatever. Toni can handle it. No problem. Or it wouldn't be if Seb didn't still hold a piece of her heart...not to mention the key to her future.

Liked it well enough. Loved the backstage look at the music business. Feel like this was a good standalone but there‘s another book coming out. Wondering if this one will feature Candi more and give some backstory about what caused her downhill slide.

Wow! What a fun new adult book! This was a great story and had a fun storyline. The added bonuses that author cooked up, really adds to the story. I think I wish I had read this on Audio.

I wanted to like this more. I love the music portions, how the music industry works and the band drama. The romance however was not great, I never got behind the male protagonist. Also the conflict at the end was predictable and annoying. Sadly just 2.5 stars.

Velvetfur That's a fab cover though 😊 That purple lipstick! 💜 3y
Nessavamusic @Velvetfur yea the cover is what made me snag it 😂 3y

#20in4 Readathon day 3!
I have actually finished three books this weekend already. One book I‘m putting back on the shelf because I realized it‘s book 2 of a series.
Currently reading The Midnight Library and listening to tagged.

Andrew65 Doing great 👏👏👏 3y

I am so super biased about this book. But I enjoyed it. I confess I find the we aren't allowed to fraternize bit amusing, although in this case, that pretty much gets discarded when they feel like it. (Lampshaded, but discarded.) But the love for Philly and the clear eyed view of life in the music industry, made this a fun read. Oh, also, for Ripped Bodice Bingo, can be used for friends to lovers. (Friends with crushes counts!)

June recap #bookspinbingo I was bad at posting reviews this month so I‘m rating them here

5⭐️ Reads
The Gatekeeper‘s Staff: TJ Young & the Orishas #1
Majesty: American Royals #2
The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes #bookspin Romance pick (tagged)
The Dawn Chorus: The Bone Season 3.5 #doublespin
Upright Women Wanted
the Outsiders
For Today I Am a Boy #lmpbc
Funny in Farsi

4⭐️ Emma #pemberlittens
3⭐️ No Good Duke Goes Unpunished

BINGO!

MeganAnn The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes was a fun rock & roll romance that dug a little deeper than these types of books usually do. I loved that the talented rock star in the making was the female protagonist who finds her family with an all female band. I‘ll be buying the next book in the series when it releases for sure. #bookspin 3y
MeganAnn This was a really great reading month for me. Lots of fantastic books! I recommend any of the 5⭐️ reads listed and if you want a review of a particular title, let me know. I may still post a couple if I have time today, but no promises. (edited) 3y

Overall Rating 4¼⭐ | Narration 😀 = Good
The romance was very good in this story...angsty without having over-the-top drama. Although the self-doubt that is always ever-present in romance novels did make an appearance, it was, at least not excessive. I also loved that the heroine was a rocker chick...who could shred...very cool. The Hero left a lot to be desired but he did have his moments. ⬇ ⬇

AudiobookingWithLeah Tamika Simone gave a fairly decent performance but Alexander Cendese, his own voice was decent….but his female voices…are...ugh...super whiny mixed with nasally and basically quite irksome.
