A compelling mystery in its own right, The Outsider nevertheless begins to truly sing halfway through when Holly Gibney enters the fray. Once again faced with unraveling the truth behind the actions and abilities of an unimaginable killer, Holly shines throughout, applying her dedicated brand of dogged deduction to an unpredictable investigation, and aided by a supporting cast of extremely likable newcomers. 5/5
I have already seen the HBO series (it was one of the things that inspired me to get the book) so I knew how things would play out. But I love King's writing and it was still suspenseful for me. And now I have to.back and read the other Holly Gibney books before I get to Holly. Such a chore. 😀
I FINALLY finished The Outsider. I thought I was going to give it a so-so because the first half was boring in places and far too long; however, the second half was not boring and I ended up liking it. I love Holly, and there was no reason for the first half of the book, before Holly shows up, to be so tedious.
The Outsider was published in 2018; I get Stephen King‘s books as soon as they are released. So I‘ve been reading this book off and on for about 5 years. I‘m determined to finish it this month. It‘s cloudy, grey, and depressing outside, so it‘s a good day to get some reading done.
Welcome to the #LosersClub open discussion for #theOutsider
Please be mindful of spoilers. We have new readers to King who haven‘t read all of his books. When referencing his other work, please keep this in mind for our new-to-King friends. Don‘t forget to tag each other in the comments so your friends can see your reply. Have fun!

In the running for being my favorite King. The premise & pacing was perfect, it was creepy. So creepy.
A heinous crime is investigated by Det. Ralph Anderson who concludes the perpetrator is an upstanding member in the community, only his alibi is as airtight as the evidence against him.
#losersclub @BarkingMadRead
This is one of King's weirder books. A man is accused of a terrible crime with overwhelming evidence against him so of course the question instantly becomes what really happened?

Starting this today for the #losersclub

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The one Holly Gibney dubs “The Outsider” brings hell and … eats sadness? Heinous crimes, but solid alibis force you to suspend belief, or rather believe in the wholly unexpected. Forensic trickery? Or the supernatural? Pretty disturbing story. I had a little trouble visualizing, but King always spins enthralling stories. Def could‘ve been shorter, though. Dude can be long winded.
I am exhausted from my trip, and it‘s raining outside, so I‘m just going to stay in bed all day and read. I‘ve owned The Outsider since it came out but have never finished it. I got the Richard Russo and Dorothy Allison books while I was in Columbia. I‘ll probably switch between all three.
Sigh. Well, first #Scarathlon book complete. I really enjoyed it…right up to the end. So much build up for an ending that felt shockingly easy. Bleh. I think I‘ll pass on the HBO television iteration but I will prob continue with the followup novel bc I‘d like to get to his latest, ‘Holly‘, who was an important character in this.

This is my first pick for the month, bc you can‘t go wrong with the King of Horror. So much traveling and walking today, so got a solid chunk done.
Also, this was apparently turned into a television series? Will have to check it out if I get the time….
#TeamWhoYaGonnaCall
I haven‘t read any SK novels for quite some time, but my apartment building has a rec room with a book exchange shelf. So I put a book I was bailing on in there and saw this one and took it, this beginning quote seems apropos given that I just finished The Afterlives…
A re-read of this classic Stephen King featuring one of my favorite characters Holly Gibney. I‘m really looking forward to the new book coming out in September.
Nursery has colour!
Also what a book to binge listen to when you're 37weeks preggo 😜
While a twisted crime against a child (that is described) it is not overly dwelled upon in miniscule details meaning you can (probably) get past that.
Such a King novel so obviously Terry *can't* have done it, or consciously? Or...??? Read on!
Reality is thin ice, but most people skate on it their whole lives and never fall through until the very end. We did fall through, but we helped each other out. We're still helping each other.
🎧 👀 HOLY 🐄! Do not read this book if you have kids. TW - A truly horrific crime against a child.
It did its job. Angered & creeped me out!!
You‘ve been warned.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I‘m surprised by how many black books are on my shelf. I decided to go with the King for this first day.

Should have probably saved this for the October reading challenge but I didn‘t. Oh well. This was a fast paced read and disturbing and creepy. I know. It‘s a SK book it‘s supposed be creepy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 read
I‘ve watched the show on HBO and liked it. I thought it was more unnerving than the book. El Cuco turns out to be an old legend but King puts his own twist on it. El Cuco isn‘t the Doppelgänger you‘re used to…it‘s something far worse.

I listened to the audio with the same narrator as for the Mr. Mercedes series, I believe. Holly Gibney from that series also makes an appearance in this one. This was really good. Things seemed like a done-deal on both sides, but almost right away, I figured it couldn‘t have been Terry. In any case, how in the world could there be such convincing evidence on both sides? It certainly had me wanting to know more
I read 148 pages in 5 hours 35 minutes for the #20in4 #Readathon. My goal was 200 pages, but adulting got in the way.
I‘m still loving this book.
Thanks again @Andrew65 !
Time for my #20in4 #Readathon update!
I‘ve read for 3 hours 36 minutes so far, getting 98/200 pages done toward my goal.
Loved the double connection - I just finished watching season 4 of Ozark, and Jason Bateman plays the main character in both Ozark and The Outsider (which I‘ll watch when I finish).
Thanks again for hosting @Andrew65 ! 🙌
📘 The #20in4 #Readathon gives me the perfect excuse to properly read the book I‘ve been sad to put down all week.
📖 My goal is to read 200 pages.
💙 It took me a minute to figure out the date was off - hoping to save some confusion. 😜
📚 Thanks for hosting @Andrew65 !
P.S. Is this your 1 year anniversary of hosting the #20in4 Readathon?!
